Question about my status.
Well, Ive been reading the TFP for a while now. I started back in April 2003. However, I do not post very often(bout 40 posts total). I am just more of a reader I guess.
So my title is still "Rookie" . Anyway I plan to donate to the TFP cause this is a great service. My question is: If I do donate can I get rid of that damn rookie title, and also get an avatar? |

Realize also, the quality of posts can make a difference in your status....or so the Germans would have us believe.

So how do you know when you are considered a member? My title is Tilted, but i can not see all forums. For example, I can not see any of the private forum.
What are the criterias for permission? Quality and quantity are the terms I a have been hearing from my friend. Are the any hardfast guidelines that I may review? Sorry for the questions, just new here. Last edited by Keedo; 07-13-2004 at 12:47 PM.. |

Hi Keedo,
I consider you a member. When I only had a few posts, I thought of my self as a member and it was becasue I felt like I was giving and receiveing a lot from the rest of the boards. At 20 posts you can still share some incredible information and parts f your life with the tfp as much as anyone else with 2000 posts. It is what ever you put into it. I found that when I was still getting into the swing of things that 2 or 3 boards really sparked my interest and after a while I met more people like me. Before I knew it I was a "member" becasue I was sharing my experiences with everyone else. I hope this helps for you. Quote:

Posts in some areas (like Nonsense) are not counted towards your total count. This is part of the having to have quality posts. Generally, if it's not in nonsense, it's not quality hehe.
I believe the TB may be the same, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure what you mean that you had access to an avatar. Are you talking about the swinging boobs one? Did you get access to it right after this upgrade? If so, I'm thinking the "avatar" setting wasn't setup properly, and everyone had access to it for a bit. It must have been fixed. |

If you wish to increase your post count....and make them quality, spend a bit of time in General Discussion. I have found this area gives great opportunity for exchange, and is pretty fun as well.

Seriously, yes, we do monitor posts for quality. And, it's really not as subjective as you might think. Just put a little thought into what you're saying.

Now I'm starting to wonder whether the mods are checking each post to make sure they are quality and marking it up on a tally board and then sticking that into the computer to keep track of where everyone is at. I would bet that they just have a system that keeps track of your post count and checks users' posts to make sure they aren't all "I disagree, poopface." and so long as they aren't, you get the post counts. Of course, that's just my theory, and seeing as my status was Rookie last time I checked, may be wrong.

I guess I like the idea that you have to have X number of posts to see everything to spark more conversation, but at the same time, I sometimes just want to read or view peoples pictures and artwork. I am not sure I like that I need to comment just to be able to see it all. I will continue to do because I have to, but thought I would voice my humble opinion.
Thanks NewB
