Mod questions...

I'm not really a newbie, but this is a question i felt was best asked in this forum.

TFP is probably the best moderated bulletin board i've seen so far. how do these people get picked up to be moderators? i really wouldn't want the job, but i can't pin down the criteria halx or whoever else makes these decisions uses. whatever criteria is being used... i think it is working well.

can any of you mod-types enlighten me on this?

When there is a need for mods, Halx puts out a "Mods Wanted" post.

Current staff then looks at the resumes and discusses them. It is pretty much a unanimous vote then for a new mod.

Criteria varies, but usually includes things like length of time on TFP, how much you contribute to the board (i.e. how much you make yourself part of the community) and how level headed you seem.

Hope that helps :)

yeah, that answers my question.

it'd be cool to be a mod i suppose, but i'm not sure i'd want to do what you guys do. keep up the good work.

Then we throw in a few crazies to make it balanced.

This is an intersting question. Moderation has to be careful on a forum with a good reputation like TFP. The recent ban/suspension decision gives a great deal of power to the moderators, and those with the power have to be responsible. In my experience (a little over a month...) the moderators have been chosen well.
