Hello ladies ..

Now, I tried to hijack the "pill" thread into a depo-provera thread, but that didn't quite work .. so I figured I would make a new one.

I know a few of you ladies are on it, and I'm wondering if you guys have any questions, concerns, etc.. or even to those wanting to try it.

I know I always have the feeling in the back of my head that I'm going to get pregnant and not know it. Realistically, its more than likely not going to happen if I get my shots on time, but WHO KNOWS? That 0.03% chance is a 0.03% of getting pregnant! And without getting periods .. you never have that wonderful thing to look forward to.

Also, I've been lucky enough to have NO adverse side effects .. but I know a lot of people do. Have any of you guys gained weight/migraines/loss of sex drive/etc? Anyone stopped taking it because of these?

Well, I don't know if this thread will take off, but please feel free to contribute! Its hard finding someone my age to talk about it with because just not that many of my friends are on it around here.

I too tried to assist you in hijacking the pill thread but I think I killed it instead. The pill works just fine for me but I would love to hear more about the shot. The no period, and no taking a pill every day sounds too good to be true.... I would love it. My greatest concern, like isis said, is that I wouldn't know if I was pregnant. I'm in college and tend to drink on a fairly regular basis and don't tend to take care of myself the same way I would if I was pregnant. I would never be able to forgive myself if I happened to get pregnant without knowing and continued on with my current life style for the first 2.5 mos or so my baby was developing. Any information, personal experience, whatever would be greatly appreciated.

I had a bit of weight gain when I first started taking depo...other than that, no side effects.

I love it...only having to worry about it 4 times a year is a very good thing. And no periods = wonderful. I was in complete misery every month, and ended up getting a prescription drug to deal with cramps. Now, though, I don't have to worry about it

On getting pregnant...that is something I worry about from time to time. I'm not sure what statistics are on birth defects, but if you get the shot WHILE you're pregnant, it kills the baby. Which is why most places insist on two pregnancy tests beofre giving you the shot (and if they didn't, I sure as hell would...)

I gained 30 pounds while taking it the first three months, and then had a non-stop period while taking it the last three months. I will never take it again.

I had about a 10 lb. weight gain, and my ass hurts for about a day or so, like when you get your tetanuys shot, but otherwise, no negative side effects. The positive effects are unFing whenever and wherever I want with no premeditation!!

Do any of you guys get it in the arm? I only got the shot in my bum once, and it was horribly painful so my doctor just gives it to me in my arm.
I'm assuming this makes no difference, but eh ..

I've been on Depo for about two and half years now. I gained weight (but that was a good thing) and I spot during the last month (when the shot starts to wear off) but it's no biggie. I've actually been thinking of coming off of it and giving my body a break for a few months. I'm just not crazy on the idea of additional hormones in my body. But I do love Depo. It's the best

I was on depo for 24 months a few years back. It killed my libido.....and eventually that killed the relationship I was in....

I liked the hassle-free part, never had a period, never gained any weight, and only had to think about it once every three months- but I really did miss wanting sex. It took over a year of being off it for me to realize that I actually was able to get horny again!

I have been on Depo for slightly over five years now. I love it. I actaully lost weight when I went on it which my doctor comments is extreamly rare but, weight fluxuation can go either way as a side-effect. It did kill my sex drive BUT, only for the first 3 to 6 months that I was on it. I have had no side effects or menstral cycle since. I think about birth control every 3 months and the effective rate is better than 99%. I am quite happy with my decision to chose Depo-Prevara.

I considered going on the shot until a friend of mine told me that she ended up getting her period all month long -- that's right girls, permanent period (though obviously less blood than an actual period -- but she was constantly heavily spotting). The worst part is that she couldn't do anything about it -- the drug was in her system and she had to wait out the three months.

i'm on the depo and it makes my periods funky. i like being on it for the simple reason of having a less chance of being pregnant, but i don't exactly like wearing pads all the time. sometimes it will stop for a few days, but i just start bleeding again and don't know why. i've lost some weight, but not much. i have a friend thats on it and she hasn't had her period since she started it.

I actually gained 60+ pounds on the medication, and it has killed my sex drive which does bother me, BUT on the other hand I don't have to deal with my period or pills. I already have enough medication around.. don't need to add to them.

All in all, I do enjoy depo. I think if I change my lifestyle around a little bit the weight will go down and I will feel better which will in effect (hopefully) increase my sex drive 10 fold.

One step at a time though.

Today I was just reminded how much I love this thing.

When it gets close to me having to get my new shot, my back becomes one cornicopia of pain. I'd have that every single month, but now, It comes but once every 3 months, and can be easily controlled with a few ibproufen.

I swear, if you guys have really painful cramps, Depo rules. I love it. I'd kiss the makers if I could ;D
