Alittle rebellious?

No, I'm not talking about my kid. Just me. I've been feeling a tad .... rebellious of late. Looking around I see all these people doing things that I just absolutely love and would love to try out.

For instance, the lovely punk/goth lady in the "Check this out for eye candy" thread. Love the purple hair. Purple is my favorite color.

Today, I went to Walmart's with the honeybun. I wore a halter top with no bra (yay me? ) I felt on top of the world.

Do you ladies ever feel the need to rebel just alittle? Do you actually follow thru with it?

What would you do, being almost 30, with a kid.. and you wanted to dye your hair purple or do something that is not the norm for you? This is knowing that your parents, family, and friends would probably die on you if you did this. I just can't decide if I should chalk it up as living alittle or just plain a rebel streak.

Come on ladies, let's hear your tales :)

I completely understand this feeling! While I haven't done anything amazingly rebellious, I have had my moments. Last summer, I was dealing with boredom, frustrated at how plain my life was so I buzzed off all my hair. Now, that isn't something life changing but for me, it was just the spark I needed to get out of the doldrums. Having a child and working does limit options but sometimes you have to bend the rules and stretch the lines of life. Personally, I surprised people by piercing my tongue. Many people think there is only one use for this piercing (I'll leave the rest to the collective imaginations) but since I am sexually abstinite, the piercing was just a small way to bust out.
It is great to throw off all cares and wear what you will and feel on top of the world. Grasp hold of this feeling because all too often, the crappy parts of life bog us down to where we think the feelings of joy and euphoria will never stop by for a visit again.

So I say, go for it!

KinkyKiwi 06-30-2005 03:13 PM

i wanted to get a tattoo on my ankle :(..but i thought twice about it and how people might react to it and couldnt go thru :(

Grasshopper Green 06-30-2005 03:40 PM

I grew up in a very, very conservative area....so I'm sure I've shocked plenty of people in this area. I have two tattoos (gasp!) and am contemplating a third. I've always wanted to dye my hair a wild color but have always worked somewhere that I could get fired for that *sigh*. Perhaps I'll dye it for a week on vacation sometime or something.

lurkette 06-30-2005 04:01 PM

http://www.tiltedmagazine.com/article.php?id=3

At 31 I dyed my hair purple. At 32 I pierced my nose. I regularly go out without a bra. I have a girlfriend. And a husband.

Live it up, doll, if you have the freedom to do it. Fuck what anybody else thinks.

ngdawg 06-30-2005 06:49 PM

Very late 40's got my first tattoo, raced my car at 2 different dragstrips(won, thank you, 12 out of 14 times), went back to school, started doing erotica photography, the list could go on, but we'll stop it there ;)

la petite moi 06-30-2005 08:03 PM

Don't let other people define who you are, or what you want to do with your life.

Gimmesugar 06-30-2005 10:23 PM

I'm new here, but yes, I did something shocking. I'm a married mother of four who most consider pretty 'normal.' I guess I've hit my mid-life crisis because I decided to get a genital piercing! I had the VCH done and I just LOVE IT! It's cool walking around hum drum places like the grocery store, kid's events knowing I have a little something extra going on down there that nobody knows about, kwim? Anyway....that's my input on this thread LOL!

Suzz04 07-01-2005 01:58 AM

Whoa!

Ok.. hehe I gotta say that you've all inspired me quite a bit. :icare:

As soon as I get the cash, I'm gonna go get purpleized! (is that even a word? ) My bf said "Go for it and enjoy it" and gave me the thumbs up sign. He likes the punk/goth chicks. Go figure... I wonder why. ;)

But I do have to say that I'm from a very conservative area as well. If you have any ideas what a "Old Regular Baptist" is... then you know my area. :hmm: But, my parents always encouraged me to be my own person, considering that my father was a preacher's son, you can about imagine the rebellions he did! (Note: I am not saying anything bad about religion, I just notice ppl tend to rebel alot around here being a child of someone like that)

But as I was saying I'm 28, getting close to 30. Not married anymore, thankfully. I've just got the one daughter. I have a boyfriend and sort of a girlfriend. I hate feeling like "everyone" else around here. I want a tattoo, but I don't think I could handle the process. I want a VCH, nose piercing, and god knows what else I will come up with!

How does one go about finding the right places to do these things tho? I'm in a very rural area. The stuff in this area consists of like a small hick town trying to be the big city but failing. No salons I know of do the brazillian (I wish they did I'd do that in a heartbeat), no clubs, no bars, nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Suzz04

ngdawg 07-01-2005 06:44 AM

You don't have to pay someone do it. Go to a Sally's Beauty Supply. There's this stuff that comes in a jar called Manic Panic that comes in wild colors and lasts about 6 weeks. We have done her hair midnight blue, wildfire red and some crazy-ass purple (she was 12 when we started this).
Cost is about $7 a jar, get disposable gloves and have SO or a friend use a 1 inch wide paint brush and follow directions. Cool as hell.

Suzz04 07-01-2005 09:00 AM

Omg.. I will so be going out of town for this. Just 7$ ... I could get several colors and do different ones! :D

I think sometimes I have way too much fun with the simple things.

Now, if I could just train the SO to do brazillians... I've seen home kits for those! :)

JustJess 07-01-2005 09:56 AM

I know whatcha mean, Suzz - I just chopped all my hair off to chin length, and it felt wonderful just to do something new!! I have one tattoo, but I am definitely going to get another one. I'd LOVE to get my nose pierced... I don't know why, I just love the way the little ones look. But I have to work... and if I become a PA, they will probably not be a fan of facial piercings. :(

Go for it, have a good time!!! Ask a moderator (maybe Lurkette?) and see if they can post a pic for you so we can cheer you on. :)

I was very particular about who was going to poke holes in my goodies. I did tons of research and found someone who is a pioneer in the field (Angel at Rings of Desire in New Orleans.) We took a trip there just for the piercing! We were only in the city for 2.5 hours! It was over a 10 hour drive round trip done all in one day LOL, but it was SO worth it! Don't let just anyone pierce you.....make sure they know what they are doing first! I didn't trust a local hack that could possibly do it really wrong, kwim? Go for it! You won't be disappointed!

Suzz04 07-01-2005 07:09 PM

There's a guy in a place called Blacksburg here in VA. If I remember correctly, it's called St. John's. The dude happens to be a RN and has been doing piercings and tattoos for quite a few years. I know a friend of mine had all her piercings done by him.

My only .... complaint... scare..... is the pain at first. I hate pain. I do not tolerate it well. And plus I have a problem going more than one day without some action. :p I do know that the VCH will need a bit to heal. But, I've heard that this guy does numb it somewhat before he does the piercing, but I'm afraid that I'll either pass out from terror or something

But, I haven't the faintest clue how to find the shop, nor do I have any idea when to do it. He's by appointments only. :/

Guess I'll be doing some patient waiting then trying to make sure I arrive on time when I call for my first appointment.

manic panic

Why leave home at all?

Suzz04 07-02-2005 07:07 AM

Yes... I looked at those.. lovely colors! But.. the only Sally's is out of town. Nothing local for us here without travelling at least 2 hours :(

Edit: Maybe after the bank finishes getting my check card back to me, I'll just order the stuff! :)

Rubyee 07-02-2005 12:01 PM

I have been wanting to go out to a public place and make out with my boyfriend- really make out. I have nothing against PDA's, but last night at the bar we saw a couple that was really going at it- girl sitting on his lap with her skirt pulled up and really passionatley kissing. I have always been too embarassed to do that. Now I want to. How is that for rebelious?

hunnychile 07-02-2005 01:02 PM

I used to love to fuck in public places, day or night.
Since I've settled down...some, I still have a wild streak but not a wild man to use it on! Too bad - so sad. I did do my first "threesome" with two pretty Les girls the other night, purely by lucky chance. It was good fun but nothing like having a real man deep inside.

Details later...

Sage 07-04-2005 05:18 PM

hrm....

I wish I could cut my hair and be happy with it. I love my long hair but want something different and am sorta afraid to let anyone do anything with my hair! Plus, I don't know how it would look. But that's not rebellious...

I'd say get Maori tatoos all up both arms. I really like the way they look, but I am *way* too self concious to do it!

Me being rebellious is difficult, just because I don't like change and am kinda afraid of doing something *out of line*. Martel really likes sex in public places and I"m like, amazingly nervous of doing anything like that because someone might see!

Minx 07-06-2005 06:42 AM

Suzz I hope you do it! Screw what everyone else thinks....it's your life and your body so you should do whatever you want with it!

I think it's only natural to go through little rebellious periods here and there. One thing I have always wanted to do is get a tattoo and I talk myself out of it because I think I'm too old. Now how stupid is that?! I think I am going to make that a birthday present to myself! :)

One thing I did finally do (despite my fear and shyness) is to start taking neked pictures of myself. I found it to be the most liberating feeling in the world! I'm hooked now and it is something I never ever ever would have contemplated doing a year ago.

I say if you want to do something - go for it!

raeanna74 07-06-2005 07:14 AM

Oh I get that feeling all the time. Lately the thought actually went through my head to do something temporary color on my hair. I've never dyed my hair at all let alone a bright color but I'd like to do just a strip or something. That would be fun. I've wanted a hood piercing for a while but never had the opportunity arise to get one at a time when hubby was in the mood. :p I'm too chicken to go alone to get one. I've been in the mood lately to play Bon Jovi really loud and wear really skimpy clothes, is that rebellious enough? I go through times when I'm feeling more rebellious than other times.

Ralli 07-10-2005 12:04 AM

Of late, I havent really been rebellious. When I was younger I was. Everything from dying my hair different colours, to you know doing the complete opposite to what my parents wanted me to do. I did some things that I shouldnt have too when I was younger. .......

Suzz04 07-10-2005 12:13 PM

Small update :) After dealing with some bats (baby ones in my wall ack!) and dealing with a relationship problem, I will be heading out to find manic panic in different colors :D

My question now is... forgive me.... Has anyone attempted to use this stuff to color elsewhere?

erm ...

1. I think many of us don't have much hair elsewhere ;)
2. in order for that stuff to work properly, the hair needs to be bleached first, and I wouldn't recommend bleaching near more delicate areas

ShaniFaye 07-10-2005 12:43 PM

I was 32 when I felt more rebellous than normal. I was the mother a 7 year old at the time....I got my nipple pierced...which turned in to the other one so 5 years later I have 2 piercings and 4 tats

snowy 07-10-2005 07:14 PM

I want a VCH. When I have the money to do so, it's up there on my list. My problem has always been you have to take 2 weeks off of sex for it to heal (and the vaginal area heals faster than other parts of the body) and EVERY TIME my financial stars are aligned, my sex life picks up.

Ugh.

I'd also like to get my nipples done, but I'm going to do the VCH first and see how I like that :)

And as lurkette said, so succinctly: Fuck what anyone else thinks.

Hash_Browns 07-12-2005 12:05 PM

I am currently preggers with my third child...6 weeks to go! I have spent the last 3 months wanting out of my body sooo badly for anight out on the town. I want to have a couple drinks and relax and hang out with friends (and if it were even possible, let it all hang out with friends as I am in love with being naked atm!). I consider this rebelious because I am pregnant and therefore restricted and it's not normal behavior for me during pregnancy. Iam usually busy being caught up with the miracle of myself growing a little life inside of me to remember there is a seperate me in there somewhere.

The really out of the ordinary things that have come up during this time is wanting to dye my hair some silly color and put blonde streaks in it. Getting a Madonna or Medusa (haven't decided which side would be best, but hubby hates the idea anyways).

But being a Mom has made these kinds of things really difficult because of the preconceptions other people have about what a mom should look like. Add on top of that the fact that I am 26 (july 19th) and have 3 kids, it would in my opinion give more people reasons to think I couldn't possibly be a good mom being so young and looking like such a rebel. I know it's easy for me to say fuck what other people think, but it's harder for me to stand out when it comes to my kids and not wanting them to have to deal with my choices and get comments or other things shoved in thier faces (because my daughter is 5 and starts 1st grade in the fall, I fear people at school saying these kinds of things openly as this area is very conservative).

In short, I feel rebelious ALL the time, and want to act out in MANY different ways. Act out about being a human being first, then a Mom (please don't take offense, it's not differnent the stating if Mom ain't happy, Nobodies Happy, and sometimes I like to step out of my Mommy title and be just me for a bit to get there). I want to act out against what a 'normal' relationship should be and show people that you can be happy with your SO while you're both enjoying the company of other adults together and there's nothing wrong with it. I want to be able to wear halter tops without a bra and not have to give a shit that it's 'not normal'...WHO SAYS? It's a halter, it holds its own...duh! ;)

This was a fun thread and I enjoyed getting some of that out! Thanks!

gremlinx8 07-12-2005 12:48 PM

I think it would be cool to get my nipple pierced, but I don't know about the pain... and my last piercing didn't end up so well. Who knows, maybe someday.

I have to agree with Hashbrowns on this one. Conservative area. What are they going to say about the mom of a 9 yr old who dyed her hair purple? :hmm:

But, anyways, once I get de-traumatized from these last two days, I will be making the attempt to see how the purple goes. Even if that means I'll be in a baseball cap for outings in case of something said on the kid basis.

nickynicole 07-13-2005 05:22 PM

When I was in high school, and just discovering the wonders of hair dye, my mom *at the age of mid 40s! Put two purple streaks in the front of her hair.

It wasn't a total commitment, but it clearly made her happy.

Suzz I hope you still go for it :) I just got some blue dye from my brother after seeing this thread, he just so happened to not want it anymore. I'm thinking of doing the underside of my hair (after baby), so it will be there, but not 'all' over and go from there if I like it and it lasts.

I was far from trying to discourage you from your chance to be yourself, if that's what makes you happy then I say do it! I just haven't found it to be that much of a want to actually do it yet, where as your case seems a bit stonger then mine :)

Suzz04 07-13-2005 07:24 PM

Nah, I'm not discouraged! I was just thinking about that before you posted and then I got to thinking "oops the wild mom"

But anyways, I was thinking maybe getting a temp type .. those kind you comb into your hair, just to include the kid on it. I think she'd have a blast picking out a color and doing that for a few days

But then again.... I'm a kinda cool mom from what I'm told, go figure. :hmm:

listid 07-14-2005 01:14 PM

I live in a relatively conservative university town, I couldn't believe the feeling I got when I first dyed my hair blue, I went from being a littile shy I guess, to walking down the street meeting everyones eyes because I knew they were looking at me, and suprisingly enough the best comments I got were from older ladies (60's and up) and the worst were from middle aged men.

I was nineteen when I did this, so it was probably more accepted, but it was a feeling like I'd never had before, it was amazing to have that much control over a part of my life.

I highly recommend doing something that makes you feel special and gives your rebelliousness an out, after all its only hair, it will always grow back and if you don't like it you can always change it.

Its not actually all that hard to do by yourself, and I've found that for me if I bleach my hair and dry it without conditioning it and then put the colour on it seems to soak in better. I put a plastic shopping bag over my head and then just do whatever I was going to do, then rinse it out whenever I get annoyed that I can't lay down, there really isn't a maximum time on it.

The one problem I've had is that it will stain when its wet, or if you sweat a lot at night, so I use old pillowcases for the first week after dying, and dark towels. The shower will look discusting (and purple) when you're done, but any cleaner with bleach takes the stains off, even out of silicon if you let it sit for a few minutes.

Sorry this is so long, good luck, and enjoy it!

Lisa

Meditrina 07-14-2005 06:20 PM

Me and rebellious are complete opposites. If you want to color your hair, who cares how old you are and how many kids you have? If it is what you want to do, then do it. I wonder if I will ever have the courage to do something different?

Sweetpea 07-26-2005 08:30 AM

Suzz04 07-26-2005 01:40 PM

Ok.. here's a little update :P

I haven't gotten to go get color yet... but.. I went back to a habit I had... shaving!

I had stopped due to when it grew back out no matter what I always ended up with a infected hair.

Anyways, I haven't been to a pool in years. God forbid that I let anyone see me in a bikini! So, the kid went with her little friend and her mom. I decided what the hell? I got my old bikini out (blue with Pooh bear!) and went. And I even got in the water... Omg.... the world is coming to a end.

It felt good to be out and about. Now if I could just get my little butt to moving to find hair color

shesus 07-26-2005 03:24 PM

This thread is awesome. I am pretty conservative and I think too concerned with what others are thinking about me. I would love to get past that and I am slowly, but surely.

I have 2 tats on my back so they are usually covered except in the summer.
I was going to get my belly pierced back in 1996, but ended up spending my money on clothes instead (I totally chickened out).
My husband did talk me into doing pictures for the exhibition forum, of course we drank some wine and vodka for the shoots.
Before we got married, my husband worked for a locally owned record store and we had sex in the backroom during a slow time.

God, I sound so vanilla compared to everyone else. My goal is to do something rebellious to post on here so I don't feel like such a loser.

Me too! In the last month, I've had stripy neon green/black/white extensions and black/platinum blonde synthetic dreadlocks extensions, which are currently morphing into "My Little Pony dreads (pink, lilac and white with swirled two-colour 'candycane' dreadlocks) as I get bored and add more stuff to it. And the best compliments I've got have been from older women who stop me to admire it and ask how I do it.

This thread makes me happy. I feel quite sad when I get talking to women about piercings, hair, makeup.. and even though they really want purple streaks or a nose ring, they feel they can't do it because they're over 30 or have children or because their neighbours will get greatly worked up over what colour the dead keratin growing out of someone else's head is.

Hash_Browns 07-26-2005 08:14 PM

This thread keeps getting better and better, and makes my first post here seem like a distant me. I will admit to feeling a little bit empowered to just say screw it! I have purple and blue and a blonde highlighting kit. I have about 27 days to go (if I make my due date ;))!! I will be back ;)

Thanks for reminding this 'Mama' that she's a person too!
