Put Together A Tattoo?

Hello.

Well, I’m designing a tattoo and I’d like some help with the artwork aspect.

I’ve gotten pictures of components that I want, but I just need them put together.

So the “base” would be like this:

I’d like to keep this face, “pose”, and the sword he has

BUT I’d like to have this muscularity

WITH this bow slung across his back in a quiver along with arrows

A tall order I know but I’d be willing to repay the favor somehow.

I plan on putting it on my inside right forearm, along with some Sanskrit saying either "I stand alone" (that would look like this: स्वयमेव तिष्ठामि ), “Lone Warrior” or “Warrior Strength” or “Way of the Warrior”.

Thanks!

Jason

Just remember ... the more detail you want to show .. the larger the tatoo will become. Will you have enough space on the inside of your forearm?

I've seen these works before, I think...in an art forum. Are they yours?

Depends on the size. I'm a bodybuilding hobbiest (natural, no 'roids) and my forearm is (I think) 13 inches at it's biggest point. About 5" across.

But no matter... if it's too big, I can put it somewhere else, like my upper left back.

Ngdawg, no I pulled these off of google image search using the word "warrior". I wish they were mine, cause then I'd be able to design my tattoo!

This isn't exactly my usual style, but I'll see if I can get something worked up. It may be a few days to a week, as I have another tattoo design to work on tonight, but I'll see what I can do for you.

find a good tattooist, he'd be able to put this together for you.
that is how i got mine made (i'm getting it on wednesday)
that way it'd also be in the artists specific style... most tattooists would LOVE a challenge like this.

Sweet, thanks! Take all the time you need. I'm in no hurry to get this tattoo.

The reason I wouldn't do that is because I want to make sure it'll look good. I plan on getting a henna. If I don't like it a henna fades away. Tattoos don't!

Thanks again majik!

Well, I draw, but had to look elsewhere to get the tat that suited me...sometimes when you're too close to the project, objectivity flies out the window

Sketched this a few seconds ago. Just a basic idea of what I was thinking (what kind of head do you want? Huge and chunky a la Hulk, or just normal?). Is this the size and shape you were looking for? Any feedback and be integrated into a sketch.

Willravel, that's really cool. Awesome in fact.

As for the head, I had a pic of what I wanted, but I'm on another PC so I'm not able to post it.

Basically the same head as the "base" picture with straighter hair down to his shoulders.

As for size, a "regular" sized head would look like the end of the movie "BeetleJuice" but wouldn't want a Hulk-ish head, so maybe something in the middle... something that looks good to you.

The sketch is awesome!

Thanks very much for the praise. If this is going to be put on you perminately, go ahead and suggest changes if you'd like. Smaller sword? Bigger sword? Straighter sword? No sword? Bigger/smaller/different bow? Smaller/bigger/differnt muscularity? Different pants? Now that I look at the sketch, I can see the torse isn't straight, the shoulders could be a bit bigger, etc. I'll use the head from the first picture linked above as refrence for the head. I drew a tatoo of the comic character "Raven" from the Teen Titans for a friend of mine....but he backed out at the last minute. I'll see if I can find it to post.

Okay, so I've given it a second shot. I started with a frame:

Then I built a perimeter:

Then I filled in the perimeter:

Then I shadded it:

Then I blended it:

So we've got the easy part.

Soooo...now we do the most important parts: the head, sword, and bow. I was hoping you could maybe find some pics of heads, swords and bows that I can put into the pic. Post some links or something, and I'll add the stuff in.

Edit: Found some stuff.

Swords:

Faces:

Bows:

FRICKIN AWESOME!

I really dig this sword:

Damn, I'm a huge fan of Arnold (as a bodybuilder) but I gotta say... he looks stoned out of his frickin mind!

I like this bow. Simple but elegant:

I like this guy's face, but without the little diamond eyes and the ponytail:

I wouldn't mind seeing with shoulder length straight hair (a'la Hercules from the TV show), but to make it easier, the shortly cut hair is tight.

Thanks bro, the drawings are awesome!

EDIT:

Found a body shape I liked. Dave Draper.

I actually hope to look like this guy. I don't know if it's attainable without steroids but I'll try!

Looks like WillRavel put up some good stuff!

I'll try to sketch something up tonight (I was out of town longer than expected).

I'd agree with the recommendation to have your tattoo artist do the final sketch that you use for your tattoo. Only the tattooist will know how his/her style works and what will look best with your anatomy. I'd recommend using whatever sketch you have beforehand as more of a starting point for a great tattoo artist to build off of.

Alright I'll keep that in mind. I'm looking at this guy:
Matt Ackermann. He does REALLY good work.

I think he'd be able to "copy"/redesign my tattoo really well.

looks like a decent tattooist, but I would reconsider getting anything written on your body that you can't read yourself. There's a Japanese tattoo in the portfolio you linked to that makes no sense, I can only imagine what the sanskrit says. It's a really good idea to get a henna version done in advance, but remember; any foreign language may look like cool exotic script to you, but to other people, it's legible text. It may become a point of embarrassment instead of pride, if written incorrectly.

Only decent? Dude looked really good to me. Do you know of any good tattooist in the Bay Area? Like, Oakland to Concord to San Francisco triangle?

Sanskrit is actually an Indian language. It's pretty tight stuff. Although I'd get it in English, if only I could find a cool looking font.

Does anyone know of a site where I can just browse fonts and see the whole alphabet?

Thanks!

His drawings were impressive, but his work with text (especially non-english) is not especially strong.

That's just what I mean; what is "pretty tight stuff" to you is legible text to other people. Unless you are 100% sure that whatever you are trying to permanantly tattoo in a language you don't understand isn't nonsensical or embarrassing, you should not consider it. I would think that something you can read would have more meaning to you than something that is merely aesthetically pleasing, especially when you have to rely on other people to tell you what is permanently written on your body.

Good point.

My desire for a tattoo is pretty much fading, and plus I haven't been able to get a finished product, so I think I'll put it on the shelf for now. Besides it's not like my skin is gonna fall off and will never be able to get a tattoo.
