Think Spinal Tap, but with an extreme metal band.
Descriptions in parentheses are the description of each from the theme song. The title sequence doesn't show up until episode 3. William Murderface (murderface, Murderface, MURDERFACE) - Bass Skwisgaar Skwigelf (Taller than a tree) - Guitar. Nathan Explosion - Vocalist. Pickles (Doodilee doo ding-dong doodilee doodilee doo) - Drummer. Toki Wartooth (Not a bumblebee) - Guitar. Characters based on real musicians, although the claims that the guitarists are based on anyone in particular is highly debatable, and it's more believable that they're just generic Nordic black metal/power metal guitarists. William Murderface (murderface, Murderface, MURDERFACE) - Bass Skwisgaar Skwigelf (Taller than a tree) - Guitar. Nathan Explosion - Vocalist. Pickles (Doodilee doo ding-dong doodilee doodilee doo) - Drummer. Toki Wartooth (Not a bumblebee) - Guitar. It's not just your average cartoon, it's loaded with obscure and not-so-obscure references to famous metal bands. Examples include burger joints "Burzum's" and "Dimmu Burger" on the obvious side, and the line from a discussion of the fact that all of their chefs were cursed "Ya, he blew his brains out .... made a great album cover." Even non metalheads can love the show and it's satire of the exterme metal scene. Death and destruction are around every corner, and at concerts their fans have to sign pain waivers agreeing not to hold the band responsible for anything that happens including death and dismemberment. In the first episode fans that are interviewed describe injuries: one had an eye stolen, another holds up a hand with his middle and ring fingers amputated at the first knuckle and says that "a guy cut my fingers off and threw them up on stage, and Murderface rolled them up and smoked them!" without further ado, here are the episodes: Episode 1 - The Curse of Dethklok Episode 2 - Dethwater Episode 3 - Birthdayface Episode 4 - Dethtroll Episode 5 - Dethkomedy Episode 6 - Dethfam Episode 7 - Performanceklok Episode 8 - Snakes N Barrels Episode 9 - Mordland Episode 10 - Fat Kid at the Dethharmonic Episode 11 - Skiwsklok Episode 12 - Murdering Outside the Box Episode 13 - Go Forth and Die (part 1), (part 2) Episode 14 - Bluesklok Episode 15 - Religionklok Episode 16 - Dethkids (part 1), (part 2) Episode 17 - Dethclown (part 1), (part 2) Episode 18 - Girlfriendklok (part 1), (part 2) Episode 19 - Dethstars (part 1), (part 2) Episode 20 - The Metalocalypse Has Begun (part 1), (part 2) The IGN interview with the band: http://tv.ign.com/articles/718/718760p1.html And of course, the Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/dethklok |

I freaking LOVE this show. Holy crap it is funny as hell. My wife thinks it is the stupidest thing she has ever seen. Good sign. . .

As a big metalhead (figuratively and literally) I love the way the show balances true metal appeal and the fun part. I can pick out really obscure references to things that are gruesome, strange, or obscure for the sake of being obscure, but I can laugh at the absurdity at the same time. It also helps that Brendon Small is a really talented musician and actually does all of the music himself (well, he programs the drum machine, but that still counts.)

I was never more than a casual metal fan so I only get the obvious references. Still, it's funny as hell, wonderfully over-the-top brutal.
I've actually been to Espoo where they are in ep. 4 a bunch of times. Nice place, brutal architecture. |

I'm obviously a fan (check the sig).
Great show! I've got them all on my DVR and still watch them quite a bit. I love the fact that it's funny because it's so over the top and bloody/gory. Quote:

I love this show. Hilariously funny, and I love the music too. I bought the Dethalbum, and have been listening to it pretty much nonstop. I never really cared for metal before, but I really enjoy Dethklok.
Does anyone else have the album?

I love the show as well, however not being a big fan of metal, most references are lost on me. I like the style and some stories.
Been watching since episode one on Cartoon Network.

Once again, Adult Swim's idiotic management style has fucked over a show, this time ensuring that few other than the cult following will stay tuned to the end of the season. I understand that the show's creator is on tour with the band, but they could at least do every other week rather than two new weeks, a week of nothing, a few weeks of reruns, three more new episodes, then wait until next year. If it's a writer's guild thing, fine, but it still wasn't planned well and the scheduling people are idiots.

I bought the Dethalbum too, but the store only had the regular version, and I didn't realize there was a difference at the time. I ended up having to DL the bonus disc for the song Hatredy.
AS did the same hiatus thing with Frisky Dingo and the Boondocks. I've also seen it with Family Guy and Avatar. I think it may be more an issue of airing episodes as soon as they get back from Korea, rather than waiting until a full season is ready.
