Life on Mars

Anyone else watching this?

I lvoed the British version - it's in my top 3 shows of all-time, but I lowered my expectations for the American version.

But, I'm liking it - good acting, similar to the British version but things are different enough to give a good American spin on things.

Hope it makes the cut and doesn't get cancelled.

I loved the UK version, but alas, the US version hasn't made it here yet.

I'd like to see it, it'll probably run on BBC Three eventually.

The British version, like highthief said, is one of the best shows I've ever seen.

The American version, which I admittedly have not watched a full episode of, looks like a pile of crap.

I'm enjoying the American version well enough, although I find it's a bit formulaic.

1.) Crime occurs
2.) Harvey Keitel shrugs it off enigmatically, suggests dated methodology (ie abuse of power).
3.) Mars Guy is indignant about solving it the modern way.
4.) Havey Keitel and Mars Guy beat each other up.
5.) Police Lady sighs and looks pretty.
6.) Mars Guy has inspiration that breaks the case.
7.) Harvey Keitel gets to inflict "dated methodology" anyways.
8.) Mars Guy mopes around to 70's ballad while Denise Huxtable's head floats in the background.

I'll keep watching though.

The actor who portrays DCI Hunt in the British version is so much better in the role than Harvey Keitel. Keitel is over the top, scenery chewing.

Phillip Glenister - yeah, he's perfect in the Gene Hunt role.

I'm a fan of the British version, too. Keitel just doesn't seem to fit this role. I keep thinking of a younger Nick Nolte in his place, but even that isn't the best alternative.

The British version had a poignancy to it, that sense of isolation in the main character, Sam, and portrayed the differences in the eras much better. You could just feel the character cringing at times...as though thoroughly modern man had been time warped back to Bronze Age or something equally brutalizing.

I'm still halfheartedly watching, but the differences are just too great.
