texas chainsaw massacre

has anybody been to the theaters lately to see the new version. and if you have give us some details about it. was it nasty? was it the best you expected?

I don't have much time, at the moment, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hadn't seen the original until the night before I went to see the remake. To be brutally honest, I hated the original. Yes, the villain was cool and original, but I just didn't find it creepy. If you're looking for a carbon copy of the original, don't go see it; it's really its own movie.

I loved it. It made me jump quite a few times, and I was tense a lot of the movie. Biel did a great job, IMO. I've read reviews where she's been described as average, but she looked pretty damn scared to me - realistically so.

I suggest seeing it. People expecting a true-to-tale remake are going to be disappointed. It really is it's own movie - it's done like a Hollywood movie - great lighting, great cinematography, and angle sweeps. But it's very cool.

totally lame in my opinion. i guess i just judge horror movies on the basis of if they actually invoke fear in me when i watch. this movie was just full of generic shadows passing over the screen, ambient sounds, and loud noises when something thats supposed to scare you happens. rather generic in my opinion, but my god is jessica beil gorgeous. :)

Ebert gave it 0 stars out of 4. That's enough for me not to see it. :) Check out his review to see why he didn't give it a good review.

Over here it is getting decent reviews. May try it when it opens here. Wasnt keen at first being a fan of the original

I thought it was more realistic as far as looks and gore, but the original was creepier, scarier and just better.

This one had suprisingly good acting, but over all I prefer the original.

with respect to ebert he never really likes theses typesof movies and pretty much hates the orginal, most of the f13ths and less than half of the noes series. that and he liked congo.

Mattevil.

I find that if Ebert doesnt like a movie, I will like it. Too bad the other one died, he had better taste.

bah it says based on a true story and those cop videos that are suposedly real are also BS... the only thing is its based off ed gein who was a twisted fuck... but he wasnt like that leatherface guy

Samari 10-26-2003 08:31 PM

I thought it was pretty good. Jessica was absolutely gorgeous. I looove that tight white tank top. It had some pretty creepy parts. I jumped out of my seat quite a few times. I've seen both of the movies and I agree with Eoh1 - it's a totally different movie.

Anways..I enjoyed it..then again I rocked the ganja about 20 minutes priar to seeing it (never seen a movie a didn't enjoy afterwards)...but that's a whole different story.

I thought it was a fun movie. Of course it was not as good as the original (how could any remake top it? :)) but it was entertaining to me and had some good acting and nice filming. I rate it a 3 of 5.

Sleepyjack 11-11-2003 09:39 PM

I saw the original for the first time yesterday and it's one of the best horror movies i've seen. Really creepy.

Anyway, i am hopefully gonna see the new one next week so hopefully it's good. But fans of the original seem to enjoy it so should be good :)

Kadath 11-12-2003 06:59 AM

Definitely a fine horror film. The fear is palpable. I found myself wanting to pause the movie to catch a breath of air. Worth it, if you want to be terrified and overwhelmed.

DownwardSpiral 11-12-2003 11:18 AM

Didn't plan on seeing this movie, I hated the original, thus I didn't plan on seeing the remake.

I saw this movie, and I thought it was really good. It didn't try to be funny or anything, it was just serious themes and the acting wasn't bad at all.

Snakebyt 11-16-2003 10:41 AM

cant beat the classic, but the new one wasnt bad at all either

merkerguitars 11-17-2003 01:03 PM

Personally I loved it. if you want to see a funny review check this out...lol

I saw the new one today. I thought it was ok. It had a few sudden scares about it and some good suspensful parts, although i missed some of my favourtie creepy scenes from the frist one. Namely the family dinner :(
Also some of the characters were predictable and not as memorable as the first. Mainly the cook. I thought the new family was too big to get any good charcaterisation, plus you knew they were dodgy from the start (even though i had seen the first, they didn't look benign at all). I also thought the subtle cinematography and camera work building tension and paranoia in the characters in the first one, was much better than this. Show technology isn't everything, which is good.

Still a pretty good effort though, plus it had the creepy sharp camera noises at the start. I gotta find some sound bytes of that....
