I don't have much time, at the moment, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hadn't seen the original until the night before I went to see the remake. To be brutally honest, I hated the original. Yes, the villain was cool and original, but I just didn't find it creepy. If you're looking for a carbon copy of the original, don't go see it; it's really its own movie.
I loved it. It made me jump quite a few times, and I was tense a lot of the movie. Biel did a great job, IMO. I've read reviews where she's been described as average, but she looked pretty damn scared to me - realistically so. I suggest seeing it. People expecting a true-to-tale remake are going to be disappointed. It really is it's own movie - it's done like a Hollywood movie - great lighting, great cinematography, and angle sweeps. But it's very cool.

totally lame in my opinion. i guess i just judge horror movies on the basis of if they actually invoke fear in me when i watch. this movie was just full of generic shadows passing over the screen, ambient sounds, and loud noises when something thats supposed to scare you happens. rather generic in my opinion, but my god is jessica beil gorgeous.

Ebert gave it 0 stars out of 4. That's enough for me not to see it. Check out his review to see why he didn't give it a good review.

I thought it was pretty good. Jessica was absolutely gorgeous. I looove that tight white tank top. It had some pretty creepy parts. I jumped out of my seat quite a few times. I've seen both of the movies and I agree with Eoh1 - it's a totally different movie.
Anways..I enjoyed it..then again I rocked the ganja about 20 minutes priar to seeing it (never seen a movie a didn't enjoy afterwards)...but that's a whole different story. |

I saw the original for the first time yesterday and it's one of the best horror movies i've seen. Really creepy.
Anyway, i am hopefully gonna see the new one next week so hopefully it's good. But fans of the original seem to enjoy it so should be good |

Didn't plan on seeing this movie, I hated the original, thus I didn't plan on seeing the remake.

I saw the new one today. I thought it was ok. It had a few sudden scares about it and some good suspensful parts, although i missed some of my favourtie creepy scenes from the frist one. Namely the family dinner
Also some of the characters were predictable and not as memorable as the first. Mainly the cook. I thought the new family was too big to get any good charcaterisation, plus you knew they were dodgy from the start (even though i had seen the first, they didn't look benign at all). I also thought the subtle cinematography and camera work building tension and paranoia in the characters in the first one, was much better than this. Show technology isn't everything, which is good. Still a pretty good effort though, plus it had the creepy sharp camera noises at the start. I gotta find some sound bytes of that.... |
