Ganguro...I hope that Alpha Flight is nowhere near X3. I think that they've wrapped up the Wolverine backstory, at least for now. Maybe we'll see the Hellfire club...

Ganguro 05-07-2003 07:13 AM

Some Emma frost action wouldn't be soo bad.
The problem with this is unless the writers really bust their balls to write a good story that is somewhat beleivable but doenst mirror the comic books exactly.. the movie is going to suck. This seemingly upcomming period of X-Lore gets really wacky.. with the whole Phoenix issue, clones, and whatnot. If they make the movie scripts mirror the storylines to appease fans it's going to make for a horrid movie. Remember folks, they are basing this stuff off 20-15 year old comic storylines.. so it's not like they started with the best material in the first place.

Prophecy 05-07-2003 07:27 AM

good point about the 15-20 year old storylines. I mean someone did mention, this could become X-men in space if the writers aren't careful. Remember the whole Shiva thing and Phoniex destroying that planet in the comics. Hell, they might even really mess with things and bring Rachel Summers in from the future O_o

Mr. Mojo 05-07-2003 08:35 AM

So if they go the Dark Phoenix path will they have <a target=new href="http://www.marveldirectory.com/alienraces/brood.htm"><b> The Brood!?</b></a> and <a target=new href="http://www.marveldirectory.com/alienraces/shiar.htm"><b>The Shi'ar</b></a> I have all the originals from that series, its still one of my favorites

Only a couple of those are genuine IMO. Most of them are just whiny. GET OVER THE FACT THAT THE MOVIE ISN'T EXACTLY LIKE THE COMICS PEOPLE!! Jean Grey "died" (not really) for X3, so what it Colossus doesn't have a thick Russian accent, and big deal if you don't see blood on Wolverines claws. They were trying to make the movie suitable for kids.

Geez

Cuball 05-07-2003 10:17 AM

some of those moviemistakes are very hard to spot, but most of them are just stupid ... when you watch a movie like a normal person you don't see things like that

Grimlok 05-07-2003 01:17 PM

If they wanted to make it suitable for kids... they would have cleaned up the language a little bit... I mean the teens calling each other Dicks and the S word being dropped several times kinda upset me... (only because I had my 5 year old with me.)

Had he not been with me I wouldn't have cared...

Anyway... Maddie Pryor was a clone of Jean Grey and she became the Goblin Queen.

Gambit is popular with the fans and the only way they can even possibly bring him in is if they bring in Apocolypse or Mr. Sinister... arguably the #2 and #3 Villians the X-men have ever faced.

Test from the WWF could easily be Sabertooth... as could Sean Ohare...

Anyway... no one has mentioned the fact that Both Storm and Iceman have the ability to control the weather... Storm with overall control and Iceman with... well... water and Ice. they could have frozen the lake had they really wanted to save her.

Why didn't they?

Because they really didn't know the danger they were facing... from what I recall they were in the plane already when the Dam broke and didn't know what was going on behind them.

I think possible storylines for X-3 could involve The Rebirth of Apocolypse... possibly in the Savage land... which means we would get to see Sauron... who rocks!

And we so need to see the Sentinels.

Prophecy 05-07-2003 01:20 PM

Sentinels brings in a whole big can of worms, no way i'd put sentinels in the some movie as Apocolypse and his Horsemen, if Apocolypse comes in then you need to bring in Angel/Archangel and others.

Mr.Deflok 05-07-2003 06:06 PM

As much as I would love to see Apocalypse I doubt we'll see him in X3. He's one major bad-ass. I reckon soon enough though (once X3 is made) they'll make X-movies based on these characters and give the series a more comic/cartoony edge, adding in characters like Cable and Sinister and most definately the Sentinels. I'd really like to see the "E is for Extinction" and "Imperial" stories turned into film. Seeing Genosha wiped out would be so scary.

Just a few corrections i need to make. Artie wasn't a member of the New Mutants. He was a Morlock and was later a student at the Massachussettes Academy along with Leech, his fellow Morlock and it's Pietro Maximoff, not Piotr.

Jeeters 05-07-2003 07:13 PM

I just got back from seeing it! I absolutley loved the movie.

One of my favorite parts was where Pyro goes ballistic on the cops. You can just see the anger building up in him when he says "You know those dangerous mutants people have been talking about? I'm one of them!". I love dark revenge scenes in movies. (Although I loved kicking his ass in the X-MEN arcade game.) I was excited about that scene ever since I saw the preview. I almost wished Rouge didn't stop him.

I am mostly worried how they will do X3. It will be hard to live upt to X2. Personally I'm not too fond of the Dark Phoenix series becuase things just get way out of hand. And yes I do not want "Mutants in Space" I stopped watching the FOX TV show when the Phoenix Saga came on because it was just too rediculous, even for a cartoon. But it was a nice suprise to see the fire on the lake.

The Sentinals were always my favorite villians, though I still think they would look stupid on the big screen.

Mr.Deflok 05-07-2003 07:25 PM

"I'm the worst one."

I hope Magnus' Acolytes are in X3!!!

I actually think the Sentinals would look cool... especially if they made them all Man Size instead of Giant Robots. Think Terminator 2!

Oh... and I agree about the whole Apocolypse thing. Bringing him and the sentinals in in the same movie would be to much...

Although I do have a couple of ideas on how it may work.

1. Apocolypse could be behind the Sentinal program... making sure scientist find exactly what they need to find to so they can build the right technology to analyze and counter a mutant's powers. He'd see it as cultivating the strong from the weak... cause only the truly strong would survive.

2. He could rise up after sensing the Pheonix force and kinda be a background character trying to capture it... It seems in the movies... the birth of the Pheonix is an evolution in Jeans Mutant's powers... The kind of Evolving Apocolypse predicted, if you know what I mean. So while the X-men are trying to stop her... he cold be pulling the strings so that he could contain the power for his own good. In the end... it'll look like she died... but she'll actually just be captured and used as a test subject... of course leading into X4.

I can say one thing... I've never cared about a movie enough to consider the direction they can take. Someone said Singer isn't interested in doing a third movie... if that's the case I'm not sure what the hell they can do or where they can go.

Wasn't Deathstrike hypnotized? So her past with wolverine wouldn't matter, as long as she did what stryker wanted her too.

Patrick Stewart = Intergalatic Hounddog.

I think it was some sort of mind control with that stuff Stryker poured on the back of her neck & Nightcrawler's.

Glad-I-Ate-Her 05-08-2003 01:30 PM

I thought the movie was awesome! I saw it twice this weekend. One I paid for the ticket and the other I had a free ticket that I got when I bought X-Men 1.5 DVD. Not a bad deal. I bought the DVD for $16.99 and the movie ticket where I went was $9.50 was free.

I'm glad that X1 did well so the studio gave a much larger budget to make X2. Also, its great that the movie raked in alot of money so they can make X3. And so on.

I liked seeing Wolverine's Berzerker rage! He was all over the place. The Yuriko story line comes from the Wolverine saga. I guess they didn't want to mix them both.

I also picked off Beast in the newscast and Gambit's name on the computer. Not the other ones though.

Magneto's powers were incredible!! Ian Mckellan is perfect for that role. I wonder if Hale Berry would return as Storm now that she won the Oscar for Best Actress. I hope she does. She is so hot!

There is so much history in the X-Men. Its hard to choose which story line to go with. Remember, the writers and the director have to make movies for the mass audience not just for XMen fans.

I remember Mystique being Nightcrawler's mother but isn't she also the Scarlet Witche's mother too? I'm not sure.

Lady Deathstrike, Magneto and Nightcrawler were being controlled by a secretion from Jason Stryker's brain.

I found an anomoly with the movie. If Xavier couldn't use his powers because they were being nullified by the (?) thing Stryker put on his head. How could Xavier be using Cerebro with that (?) thing on his head?

I really enjoyed the movie. My heart was racing from the beginnig. Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Magneto were fantastic. Through in Storm and Mystique causing havok was also great. Xavier controlling reality. This movie just plainly rocks!!

Some great lines: Not verbatim.
"Logan, if you don't turn off that cigar especially in here in Cerebro. I'll have you think you are a six year girl for the rest of you life. I'll even have Jean braid you hair."

"I guess I am just an animal."

"Rouge, you wouldn't hurt me."

I think once he was under the illusion it was taken off since he thought everything was all hunkey dorey in the mansion.

Info on the making of

Mr.Deflok 05-09-2003 02:42 AM

Another flub not listed is the file that is given to the President at the end of the movie disappears and reappears in different shots. It's really easy to spot because the file is bright blue.

But I'll be damned if that's gonna stop me from loving the bejesus out of this movie!

Prophecy 05-09-2003 05:34 AM

with Jean being the Phoniex and Pyro joing Magnus, do any think Asteriod M will be in the next film?

Maveric 05-09-2003 08:07 AM

i really enjoyed the movie but the only problems I had a hard time buying was -

That bullet entering wolverine's skull and then the entire undamaged slug plops out after his regeneration kicks in...
it should have smashed flat against his metal skull. -that was just too obvious not to notice.

Jean could have just put a telekentic shield over the jet and let the water rush over them or let bobby just freeze the water... but i understand why, because they had to "kill" jean.

acting was superb by everyone, the action was thrilling and the set designs were very eye pleasing... money well spent...

I'm also glad they expanded Storm's role, I had heard that originally she was virtually not even in the original X2 script....

Logerine 05-09-2003 06:27 PM

Just saw it today.

Is it possible for a sequel to be better than the first? In the case of the X-Men franchise I say yes! yes! yes!
X-Men United is awesome. Great action, plot, and character development. I remember thinking that Storm was underveloped in the first film, but she really gets fleshed out more in this one. Bobby Drake was cool too (no pun intended). I liked the part were he chilled Wolvie's soft drink. And Nightcrawler was simply outstanding.

Great casting, though I still think Hugh Jackman is far too tall and skinny for the part. I kept thinking that he shouldn't be looking down at Jean, he should be looking up at her. After all, Wolverine is only five-three. Didn't the CGI guys use some movie magic in Lord of the Rings to make the Hobbit actors look shorter than they actually were? If so, they should've used it on Wolverine. Other than that, Hugh is great, because I think he really captures the personality of Logan in his acting.

*****
five stars for me.

That's a good point. They did such a great job of accenting Wolverine's shortness in the first movie, I almost thought Hugh Jackman <B>was</B> 5'3". They didn't put nearly as much emphasis in the second movie. Oh well, there's always the third Wolverine movie...er, I mean, X-Men movie. ;)

Hedgehog 05-11-2003 08:20 PM

One thing I can't figure is how come the X-jet was super-stealth in the first movie ("If they can detect our jet, they deserve to catch us.") but isn't in the second?

KBilly 05-11-2003 11:27 PM

The movie was sweet, but it seemed to go on forever. I don't know what they could've cut out, but +2 hours for a comic book movie is kinda extreme.

Prophecy 05-12-2003 05:27 AM

Yes its long, but it had to tie into the first movie, deliver a plot for the 2nd and set up the 3rd.

Zotz 05-12-2003 07:08 PM

I just saw it yesterday and I found it to be a feast for the eyes! I loved it. I didn't think it was too long at only 124 minutes. I stayed away from this thread until I saw it and unfortunately missed Beast and Gambit. No problem....I'm going back to see it later this week. I thought it was well done and cannot wait for X3!!!

troy h 05-13-2003 02:30 PM

Stealth tech still works best at night, there isn't (quite) yet a means of effectively blocking the mark I eyeball - i.e. they could find the X-jet in this movie because it was daytime, and they were circling the mansion, which the X-jet was approaching. The technical flaw here was that the F-16s could "paint" the X-jet with their radars (almost no radar signature). . . better would have been heat-seekers.\

Overall, I loved the movie. No real complaints.

As for the next movie, I'd like to see the Hellfire Club and Phoenix dealing with control issues and mental instability. No need to invoke the Shiar, etc. Since Singer has stated that he's *trying* to keep powers consistent with real world, I doubt (hope) that there are no sentinels, ether.

Another idea is that they could more or less combine the Phoenix and Proteus stories by going to Muir Island, because Moira McTaggart has more experience dealing with medically treating mutants than Xavier does (given her son is Proteus) and then they could deal with that aspect . . . just a thought.

That's the nice thing about this universe - there are tons of good stories to be told.

Great movie, can't wait until it comes out on DVD. A definite must buy.

archer2371 05-16-2003 04:07 PM

You guys realize that all of these comic movies will eventually lead to Onslaught, that kick ass storyline from the comics a few years back, but it's been a while since I've read that series and my family moved and my mom threw out those comics *cry*. So can anyone give me an update on what happened with the Onslaught schtuff?

yodapaul 05-16-2003 06:15 PM

I really linked X2, Can't wait for the next movie.
