I have collected comics for a long time, like 18 yrs,
i like all kinds of titles, i was wondering how many others really collect them, not just read them at a buddy's house, what comics are you proudest of?

I did... stopped when Jim Shooter kept rehashing the same ideas, and just at the point when Image launched...

I missed some greats, but then again, i did get to collect lots of books...

Proud? I'm always lamenting the missed ops, like the Dark Knight Series in Leather Bound... cheap 10 years ago, priceless today.

But I do have the Wolverine Mini series, and the What if Wolverine Killed The Hulk.

I collected them from 1991-95 when everyone and their mother did. After the whole "Let's put a foil cover on every even issue" phase and Marvel's bankruptcy, I never came back. I hear comics are quite good now but I don't think i can go back to plunking down so much a month every month all over again.

Despite what my user name might tell you, I don't. I used to back in junior high school, but stopped around high school. I still think Batman is a badass though.

I wonder if I still have any of my old comic books. I'll have to check it out whenever I get back home. Maybe my mom stuffed them in my closet when she turned my bedroom into some weird bunny room.

the money is always an effort, but i love art, and there are are books out there where the art is at it's best. i just can't read it if the art isn't good, and i hate it when they go from a really great storyline with phenominal art to a mediocre story with shit art.

that's why manga is so popular i think, the titles are drawn by the writer and are consistent.

still there are some great American comics too.

I used to. Collected WILDCATS and Gen13...

left Gen13 when J. Sccott Campbell did, the newer artists blew compared to him. moved to Danger Girl, but sadly, that kind of petered out after only a few months.

I used to collect Comic Cards, it was the craze back then....I still have all of them somewhere, I had entire sets of those things. Marvel Masterpiece, Marvel Metal, Flare, all that stuff.

I collect Spawn and other Image comics. Every once in a while, I stop, then I go back and see what I've missed. I can't say I collect them for their monetary value (as most really don't appreciate very much until a long way out), but I do keep them for their readability. They're good to read on Saturdays.

Never did and never could understand the attraction.

I do collect books though (for want of a better phrase). I find the written word so very much more powerful than a cartoon image.

sounds like you read more for the story than the art. those guys are great writers but i have foud that most of the time, except for Strazynski, they all get stuck with crap artists.

I wouldnt say collect so much as I just seem to be storing a bunch of comics.

Collecting implies catologing and alphabatizing and pricing and such.

Ive just been throwing them in boxes for the past 20yrs

Forgot Peter David and Mike Millar. I'm sure I'm forgetting others as well.

You know, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose with respect to artist. But sometimes my tastes change. I used to hate Mike Mignola, but now I love his art.

I was into The Wolverine for quite some time in the 90's. I was a HUGE fan of the Punisher. I collected all 3 of titles. After Marvel started to kill off some of there characters to increase sales, including Castle, I slowly stoped buying. Who wants to invest in comics, if the company is just gonna kill them off. I still pick up one every couple months, dont know whats going on, but something about the smell of comics, I like it, reminds me of my youth.

I am also looking forward to The Punisher movie coming out in a little while. Thomas Jane plays Frank Castle; Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and John Travolta also star. Release date is April 16. Check out the trailer at... http://www.apple.com/trailers/artisa...nisher/teaser/

I do tho mostly just in Trade Paper Back form now. I just cant afford to buy titles monthly now.

My recent good reads...
1602 - The Marvel Universe if it took place in 1602. Written by Neil Gaiman of Sandman fame

Supreme Power - Really cool series by the guy who did Babylon 5 (I can spell his name for the life of me...)

The Outsiders: Looking for Trouble - A fun new series from DC

and pretty much anything from Marvel's Ultimate line.

I wish I had seen this thread before starting another one. Sorry about that Board Moderator.

Yes, I read comic books, and I also write them for fun (not professionally). I enjoy reading Wolverine since they've relaunched the title. I've been reading Wolverine since 1988 I guess. Some of my other favorites are The Dark Knight Returns and the original The Crow series by James O'barr. Also there is a new title you can check out at www.nightmare-factory.com/nf
It's called Something Wicked -- created by Jerry Beck.

Crazy

I've just recently got back into reading comics. I was always a fan, but the crap they started putting out in the 90's had made me stop buying until recently. Now there are quite a few good titles that I'm collecting each month, though Fables and Gotham Central are two of my favorites.
