Catherine Zeta Jones joins cast of Ocean's Twelve

Source: Coming Soon!

Quote:

Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will join George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, and the rest of the all-star ensemble cast of Ocean's Eleven in its much-anticipated sequel, Ocean's Twelve, scheduled to begin production this April for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh and produced by Jerry Weintraub in association with Section Eight. The screenplay is by George Nolfi.

Ocean's Twelve reunites the original cast in another crime caper, this time set in Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Vincent Cassel, Elliott Gould, Eddie Jemison, and Carl Reiner also star. Ocean's Twelve will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.

"Catherine is just terrific -- one of those stars who comes along once in a long while," said Weintraub. "It's not easy to find an actress who can measure up to the star power of this cast, but Catherine will not only hold her own, she'll add a lot to the movie. I've wanted to work with her forever, and couldn't be happier to welcome her."

Said Jeff Robinov, President, Production, Warner Bros. Pictures, "Catherine has demonstrated her ability to handle humor as gracefully as she does drama; she will be the perfect addition to our already terrific cast on this movie. We're extremely happy to be working with the tremendous team involved with this picture."

Zeta-Jones will be seen later this year opposite Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg's Terminal.
Sounds good; she's a great actress and the first movie was real good and I'm glad they've got everybody coming back. I just want to know how in the world they can afford to pay all those a-list actors!?

They'll probably get paid scale(mimmum wage in movies). I bet they are doing it just for fun. Kevin Smith does the same thing with his movies.

quadro2000 02-11-2004 09:14 AM

Mattevil's right...I believe I remember reading a story about it written by Carl Reiner, who was so excited to be working with all these big-name stars...if I were a big-name star, I'd be thrilled to be working with Carl Reiner...he's a genius.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. The first one was fantastic.

Destrox 02-11-2004 09:21 AM

Wow, that casting is amazing!

Ocean's Eleven was a great movie too, I hope they do this one well.

Anyone notice lately, Jones and Clooney been two excellent pairs in movies.

I can only assume you are refering to the dreck that is "Intolerable Cruelty." I saw it this weekend, well to be honest I saw the first half of it this weekend and turned it off. The over-the-top overacting was just too much for me to take.

As much as I liked all the actors they just stunk it up in that movie.

Back on topic tho... O11 was great, I look fwd to O12.

Mr.Deflok 02-11-2004 01:05 PM

Oceans 11 was fantastic, then I bought it on DVD and watched it and nearly fell asleep... it wasn't so clever or cheeky the second time through, still, was a great film.

I think the over top acting was supposed to be part of the movie, it wouldn't of felt right if it was all serious.

InTeGrA77 02-11-2004 07:10 PM

That should be a good sequel. I thought that the 1st one was great, and I hope that the 2nd lives up to it's expectations. Jones should be a good addition to the already fantastic cast, and she'll fit in well. I wonder how they'll include her into the story...?

Averett 02-11-2004 07:12 PM

Actors have been known to work for scale for Steven Soderbergh. Most likely what's going on here. Besides, its not like any of them need any more money.

diergray 02-11-2004 07:22 PM

This sounds great. I liked everything about the first movie except for the EMP device!

I think they also all have a lot of respect for Steven Soderbergh, he's a great director

moonstrucksoul 02-12-2004 09:46 AM

i would defineatly want to see that in the theatres

WarWagon 02-12-2004 09:38 PM

I really enjoyed the first one, had no idea they were making a sequel. Should be a great film with the original cast, plus the latest hottie addition :-D

viper11885 02-12-2004 10:10 PM

What a cast. That is awesome. I really enjoyed Ocean's Elevan as well. Great movie and very clever. Can't wait for the sequel to come out.

Redjake 02-13-2004 05:28 AM

I would rather them not make a sequel. As it stands, Ocean's Eleven is one of my favorite movies. I've seen in MANY times, it's one of the only movies I can watch over and over without getting tired of it. If they screw this up, it will all be over. The best part about the first movie (recent first movie) is that the movie somehow balanced out the fact that it KNEW it was a good movie, all while being hip and snazzy. The perfect balance!

I don't see how they can do it all over again without it being basically a remake of the first (recent) one. If they can bring in a new plot element, keep the movie hip and snazzy, and make the movie KNOW it's already a good movie just because of the amazing actors/actresses, then we will be alright.

Let's hope!

Hrothgar 02-13-2004 05:17 PM

Her addition will make me do the same thing I did for Ocean's 11... watch it at 3am on HBO. It's not really a high priority or anything.

Plan9Senior 02-13-2004 05:30 PM

It was bad enough that they redid this movie, and now they are making a sequel? Bleh!

Bad enough? The movie was considerably better than the original. I've seen both. The original is........unoriginal and boring.

Have you even watched the movie all the way through? It's a great movie! Unless you don't like intelligent, witty, comedic performances by excellent actors....

illesturban 02-14-2004 02:37 PM

^ I agree :nods:

Plan9Senior 02-14-2004 02:41 PM

Well, I didn't enjoy it sorry.. no need to assume I don't like intelligent, witty, comedic performances. I just am not a fan of remakes.

Yeah, very much in the spirit of the original Oceans Eleven, which was all from a half-assed, drunken idea dreamed up by Sinatra and some other Rat Packers. They were all in Vegas for the summer and thought it'd be fun to make a movie together. And fifty years later, somebody came along and remade it so it was decent.

I'm not usually a fan of remakes either, but you shouldn't stereotype Ocean's Eleven into the "terrible remake" category (in which I'm assuming you did). The remake is excellent, it rises above the original in every aspect. If you like intelligent, witty, comedic performances, then you will like this movie. Case closed!

Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one, and everyone thinks everybody elses stinks.

Sorry, I don't like remakes. There is nothing "intelligent" about taking somebody elses script and making it your own.

Redjake 02-15-2004 08:29 AM

I'd say taking a script that had extreme potential but wasn't executed right and rejuvenating it for the modern populous is rather intelligent. Why lay waste to something that is full of potential? At this day and age, we just happen to have a director and (basically probono) actors who want to have fun and make a good movie EXCELLENT.

You can stand up and fight or you can go home, whichever pleases you. I for one am glad they made a remake. Now I like the movies.

ohhh ok hey thanks for clarifying that one man; lol. nah i had never heard that one.

but yeah i dunno, i thought ocean's 11 was a good remake. Another recent one I think was pretty good was The Italian Job. It's hard to compare movies to their originals because they'll never be the same. But what I personally think makes a remake better is if they can totally re-do it and have you guessing what'll happen at the end.

grayman 02-15-2004 05:07 PM

I generally don't care for remakes either, but I really enjoyed Ocean's Eleven, it was clever, witty and fun. It had great dialogue and was well paced, you could tell they all had fun filming it. On the other hand, I dread the idea of a sequel. I think that sequels are a bad idea, especially when the original is a great film. There are exceptions, Alien and Aliens, for example, but most sequels usually just destroy the concept of the original. I hope that this is a good movie because I really liked the cast and I thought that the original turned out very well, but I have a bad feeling about this.

Panopticon 02-15-2004 07:52 PM

I hate Catherine Zeta Jones.

She's such a snobby bitch.

pixelbend 02-18-2004 05:49 AM

Did anyone else notice that in O11, Brad Pitt is always eating. In every scene. I wonder if they are saying he has the muchies all of the time.

Redjake 02-18-2004 02:19 PM

yeah, it cracks me up everytime. I can't stop laughing. he is always eating something extremely fattening too (usually). he is the best character in my opinion.

bltzkriegmcanon 02-18-2004 02:58 PM

I dunno man, I'd like to see Don Cheadle's character make some more screen time. Basher's pretty damn funny.
