Who are your favourite directors?

Im a big fan of Wes Anderson, Terrance Malick and The Coen Bros.

SlapHappyMalice 04-15-2004 12:25 AM

Steven Spielberg.

KnifeMissile 04-15-2004 12:47 AM

For me, it's a toss up between Joel Coen (of the Coen Brothers) and Woody Allen. I'm also tempted to add Terry Gilliam to that list. I'd probably add M. Night Shyamalan, too, if he had made more movies...

Nancy 04-15-2004 01:57 AM

Tim Burton - he's a genious

iamnormal 04-15-2004 03:05 AM

I could watch "The Searchers" all day, every day and never get sick of it. Ford made some amazing films, and I bet half the people here have no clue who he is.

Giant Hamburger 04-15-2004 08:27 AM

Ford was a master.

Sam Peckinpah had his moments.

Terry Gilliam is my favorite.

Speed_Gibson 04-15-2004 02:52 PM

John Huston
D.W. Griffith
Charlie Chaplin
Fritz Lang - the very mention of his name should be enough
edit: and John Ford as well
hard to think of living directors or people that did/do all Colour films.

Paradise Lost 04-15-2004 02:58 PM

Woo! Someone who likes old movies! (Speed_Gibson)

Anyways: Big fan of Charlie Chaplin, I like Orson Welles,
John Ford if only for the Quiet Man, and, in terms of
Great Cinematography + Sweet Epic = David Lean.
Made them better than WhathisFace Peter Jackson any day of the week.

Most other newer directors (post 1975) seem to
use cheap tricks to lure the audience into thinking
the movie is something better than it is (except
in the case of the Original Original Star Wars, which
I can never seem to get enough of.)

Watch a good classic is like reading book. Just better.

Porkchop 04-15-2004 03:05 PM
