I've seen more than my fair share of Voyager and I think it's the worst of the Star Trek series, by far. It was simply spineless. The show never took any risks and was afraid to show any faults in its characters, particularly captain Janeway. I often see a gem of an idea in an episode but they never do anything interesting with it.

For instance, many episodes show how stubborn captain Janeway is but not once has her stubbornness ever worked against her. In fact, it has always worked for her, such as in the series finale. Why must she be depicted as perfect?! Are the writers afraid that giving her a character flaw will be seen as misogynistic? All the other captains have had their faults and have made their mistakes. Why must the writing staff ban such an obvious, useful, and (above all) interesting plot device?

That's not the only example of the show's cowardice. I just saw the third season premiere, where the crew was stranded on a primitive planet by the Kazon, with the exception of Tom Paris, Mr. Suder, and the EMH, who have evaded capture and are trying to retake the ship. A surprising amount of story time was spent on the crew's primitive life on the planet while surpringly little screen time went to the retaking of the ship.
I think it would have been really interesting if almost no screen time was spent on the rest of the crew and the entire episode was spent on the ship, with two principle characters and a recurring character, Mr. Suder. It would have been unorthodox for the show to open the season without most of the cast but it would have been bold, interesting, and they'd have a very interesting story to back them up (the retaking of the lost Voyager).


But perhaps I expect too much of TV. I would have had a guest star play Sam Beckett on every episode of Quantum Leap but the producers obviously didn't think that would be a good idea. Personally, I would have had Mr. Suder (coming back to Voyager here) restore his psychosis as a sacrifice for retaking the ship but, again, that's just me...

I agree, would have been nice to see Janeway cause some royal fuckups and have a growing resentment on the ship - maybe a mutiny episode

Never cared all that much for Voyager. I didn't like the characters, I didn't like the premise, Hell I didn't even like the opening theme music. Now, that's sad. Who was the little blonde chick, that used to help Nelix in the kitchen? Now her I liked.

I personally liked Voyager more than Enterprise and Deep Space Nine combined, multiplied by infinity plus 2. but that's just me. ok not that much, but I just could not get into DS9 or Enterprise, There had to be some reason I watched Voyager every week and not the other two. Maybe it was Torres and Seven of Nine..

Janeway was my least favorite person on the ship.

I really, really liked Voyager. Just a really enjoyable show. I preferred TNG and DS9, but Voyager was light years ahead of the original series and Enterprise.

I couldn't get into Voyager, but admittedly, I never made it past the first season. As far as I'm concerned, the Star Trek franchise never existed after DS9. I just don't care for Rick Berman's style: the plots feel shallow, I hate most of the characters (Tom Paris, B'Elanna Torres, Kes, Malcolm Reed, it goes on and on...) and they tend to rely on spacial anomolies and time travel in too many episodes.

I used to be a die hard Trekkie (hell, I had both the Encyclopedia and the Enterprise Technical Manual in my backpack through much of high school). But, it's just not doing much for me anymore. The first season of Enterprise was intriguing, but they totally turned me off in the second season premiere.

I also never was able to get into Voyager. I think a lot of fans were looking for something new and daring. I'm not so sure that Voyager really made an honest effort to push the trek universe in the right direction.
I have really gotten into Enterprise. The delving into a temporal war (a relative/time war) is really original for the series and has been interesting (I realize that Voyager had a slightly similar storyline, but I felt that Enterprise played it out better). Every trek has it's bad episodes. It always bothers me that every trek had to have the episode of the old west planet, but what are you gonna do?

TNG was where it died for me. Without Gene Roddenberry, there's just nothing.

And tell me who measures up to the great Jean-Luc? Absolutely nobody.

I really liked DS9. It was darker, different than the other series, especially the last few seasons. I liked the way Avery Brooks played Sisko, I think he was the best of the Captains. Dax of course was hot, and Worf got more to do than in TNG. I miss that series the most. Voyager never really did it for me. I'm ashamed to say that maybe it was the female captain, but after the pilot I couldn't help but think that Kirk would have gotten the ship home without a second thought.

I agree. I loved DS9, especially the last couple of seasons when the war broke out, and they brought in the Klingons (and tried to bring in the Romulans). The finale was a little cheesy, so was the whole Prophet thing, but all-in-all, solid series.

The introduction of the Dominion saved DS9. Before that it was eh...so so. Kind of like the first season of Enterprise. The introduction of the Xen di (not sure on the correct spelling of that) kind of picked up the series. The WWII setting of the new season looks promising...I loved the season premiere.

Voyager had its really good episodes and really bad. A lot of the Borg episodes and episodes centered around the Doctor were good. The Year of Hell was good...those just came to my mind.

Voyager could have been better, but it wasn't bad.

You know what? Your'e right! The doctor was, for me, Voyager's saving grace. He had excelent presence and is a gifted actor. The borg bored me after Picard owned them in First Contact. Species [can't remember the number], or the species from the solid space universe, was interesting it their first introduction. Unfortunatally, they followed suit with the srest of the series, and soon became bland.

I really liked/like Voyager. Though I'll admit some of the episodes might not be the most interesting or exciting, I like all other aspects of the show a lot more than other Star Treks. The U.S.S. Voyager is definitly my favorite of the starships, and in my opinion, very well thought-out (if you study the technical/trekkie side of it).
I like the entire cast too - really the only team who seems to have a little fun now and then, including some nice humor. The Doctor is awesome too - probably my favorite Star Trek character out of them all.

I guess you could say I feel Voyager was the most 'people friendly' series, which is what I like.

Todd and I have friends that make fun of us when we talk about watching Voyager on Saturday nights (when it comes on in St. Louis).

After the Doctor, Tom Paris is pretty damn cool, because he's the cool guy in the show. There are some decent episodes with the Holodeck and Tom.

Some of the Tuvok "investigation" type episodes were good too.

Star Trek needs to take a rest the whole series. Its too bad, but they just aren't able to put out anything worth watching. Gene Roddenberry deserves to see better stuff continue on with his original ideas.

How anyone could think Enterprise is better than Voyager I'll just never understand. Voyager wasn't amazing, but I did enjoy it.
