Summertime movie blues

I just mentioned this in chat....but I am so incredibly underwhelmed by the movies this summer. I can remember summers past that nearly every weekend would be something I looked forward to; this year I'm not finding anything other than Batman Begins and War of the Worlds that is halfway decent. (Yes, I love summer blockbuster types) I have such high hopes for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; I hope it doesn't let me down. Anyone else feel the same?

I've felt this way for a while now. Yoiu finally reach a point where the big summer blockbusters just aren't that exciting anymore. I'm really not looking forward to any movies this summer, but this fall looks good with Serenity and Kong lined up.

High Hopes, High Hopes...

I think the main reason this summer's crop of blockbusters is so dull, is the high number of remakes. Why should I bother seeing a new Bewitched if I still remember the original fondly? The Batman franchise may have needed rejuvenation, but is it truly fresh given the multitude of other action movies? And what is the difference between the Fantastic 4 and Spiderman or X-men except the colours of their uniforms? This may be all new for the kiddies, but why should I care?

I've learned that the only way to enjoy a Hollywood feature, is to go in with low expectations. I used to regularly go to aintitcoolnews.com for movie news, updates and spoilers, but I soon realized that too much eager speculation and analysis can only lead to disappointment. These are just sugary commercial products after all. (and they all taste the same!)

Before Episode 3 came out, I did my best to shun any info or hype so that I could go in objectivly without high expectations. I was pleasantly diverted for 2 hours and was able to keep my scoffing laughter and forehead smacks to a minimum.

These days, I'm more likely to go to moviepooper.com or themoviespoiler.com and read the ending rather than actually see the movie.

Crash was Hollywood's high point this summer.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I think you are right, fresnelly. Nearly every movie I've really heard about is a remake or a sequel. And most of them are for things I have no interest in. I guess I didn't lump Crash in as a summer movie, but it is by far the best movie I've seen this year. I usually don't read up on movies or whatnot; I'll see the trailer at a theater and will read the local paper's review, and thats about it.

I still have high hopes for Charlie

This trend is what is keeping me to renting movies - It's a little cheaper, and if I don't like the movie, I can stop it and send it back. I feel slightly out of the loop that I haven't seen the Star Wars 3, Batman Begins, Bewitched, or any of the sequel/prequel movies this summer, but maybe just let them simmer and you can watch them spread out.

It's been a while since there's been a good summer movie. It seems that every summer movie is aimed towards teens. And as far as I can tell, teens don't seem to care what they see as long it has nudity/violence/some hot actor/actress or a combination of the three.

I still haven't seen crash. I really want to.
