Best Summer Drink?

The vodka in watermelon post reminded me that I'm struggling with my official summer drink. Last year it was lemonade and Absolut Citron vodka with crushed ice. Year before was Red Bull and Sky vodka. This year I'm already seeing a lot of people drinking iced tea and vodka around the pool. Not a huge iced tea fan and would prefer something a bit more unique. Any suggestions? Thanks.

This one might be worth a try. The Moscow Mule:

Moscow Mule recipe

2 oz vodka
2 oz lime juice
8 oz ginger ale (or ginger beer)

Mix ingredients in a highball glass with ice.

Ice cold Castello di Amorosa pinot grigio just can't be beat in my book.

But if we're talking strictly cocktails, nothing says relaxed fun to me than a Makers and Diet over ice.

Best summer drink?

Easy.

Gin & tonic.

It's not unique, but you asked for the best. Maybe I'll return later with some others.

Ever had a Venetian Sunset from the OG? Sparkling wine, pineapple juice, and a little bit of grenadine. Yum.

I like a pinot grigio.

That said, the proper answer to this question is: Witbier.

Or perhaps a mojito, but only if somebody's strained the swamp out of it. I don't drink anything with an undercurrent.

...that sounds like a Lemon-Drop Martini...i've never had one but sure sounds good

My favorite right now is a TEQUILA SUNRISE:
...it's just so pretty with layers of orange (juice) and red (grenadine)
and lots of ice and then...

i think EVERYthing is funny after only one

I like Royal Flush(s).

Royal Flush recipe

Serve in Old-Fashioned Glass

1 1/2 oz Crown Royal Canadian whiskey
1 oz peach schnapps
1/2 oz raspberry liqueur (That or Grenadine)
1 oz cranberry juice

I love them, they are my new favorite sipping drink.

From the House episode:
Frozen Liquor Ice Cream

Now THAT is a summer drink. Meal. Thing.

I have to agree, there is nothing better than a minty mojito when it is hot outside.

I'm growing mint this year just for mojitos.

I usually drink mojitos or gin and tonics in summer. There's a bar around here that makes a cocktail called "The Big Mouse" that I love: infused kiwi gin, mint, lime, ginger ale, muddled like a mojito.

I like mojitos in the Summer, but they are a pain to make. I like a good margarita on the rocks with salt. A cold Mexican beer with a lime is nice too.

I have never considered Islay Single MaltScotch to be a Summer drink, but suddenly I want to go buy some Laphroaig.

Baybreeze: vodka, cran, splash of pineapple
Sweet tea with Pomegranate vodka
Stella, of course
Coke Zero and either Blanton's or Stoli Vanil with a splash of lime juice
Cran and Stoli Vanil = Cheesecake Martini (I thought they were joking, it tastes the same!)

This is actually a drink I had last night:

Root beer
Jameson Irish Whiskey
Bailey's Irish cream
Bols Butterscotch schnapps

We are still working on ratios but if you add a lil more Bailey's it tastes like a root beer float.

No kidding. Especially in these parts...good iced tea is hard to find.

My dad's whiskey sours or a margarita is my summer drink of choice, but I mix tequila with limeade...I don't like margarita mix. I've never had a mojito. Perhaps I should try one.

hahaha and here I am thinking the opposite way.. who would ruin vodka with ice tea?!

BCD: My advice, invest in Ketel One, Chopin, or Belvedere and just drink it straight. If you have to have a cocktail, then go with the one I always suggest to people (Monkie can vouch for this)

Madras

2 parts Vodka (go for the good stuff. not that sky or absolut junk)
2 parts OJ
Splash of cranberry.

now I usually add just a touch more cranberry when it's hot.. don't ask me why, it just seems to go better with the heat. I'm very rarely drinking a cocktail anymore, but this one has never failed me or anyone else that I've made it for yet.

If you don't like the taste (taste?) of regular vodka, then go with Ketel One Citroen. It has a citrus background to it and completely masks the bite.. which is why I personally won't drink it, but alot of people don't like the bite.

Mojitos are on the top of my list for summer drinks. Mint Juleps and Gin & Tonics are next. I'd love to have a Pan-Galacitc Gargle Blaster this summer but I can't find any of that ol' Janx Spirit.

I always drink Ketel One or Grey Goose when I'm drinking a martini or a vodka with (little) tonic. However, I have a hard time telling the difference btwn the good stuff and the average stuff when I'm mixing it with juices. Is there that much of a difference? I have a similar philosophy with my winter drink: bourbon with a splash on ice. Always go with Woodford or Knob Creek. However, seems crazy to use such a premium bourbon in bourbon and cokes. That is what Jim Beam is for. What do you think? Thanks.

If you can't tell the difference then it's up to you to use what you want.

I can tell the difference even in a mixed drink. Maybe it's because I drink so much that I just know the flavor profiles of what I like and when that isn't there it just is bleh to me. Or it could be that I put alot more vodka than most people do in their mixes.

I guess it's up to you really, but at least try the Madras, if you are going with Vodka during a hot day. Also be sure to get a low sugar OJ. Sugar=hangover.

I'm not much of a drinker, but I'll go along with Baraka and Wrexify on gin and tonic in the summertime. My real favorite in the summer is limeade, either with or without the alcohol. My Mom makes it with fresh limes and sweetens it with white grape juice.
