TFP Food Exchange

I know I've talked to a few TFPers about wanting to trade local goods and home cooked meals with others on in chat. So that got me to thinking, why don't we work out TFP trade routes for good food? They are alot of things that can be vacuumed sealed or canned for really cheap and baked goods (cookies and the like) can easily be shipped.

Here is what I am thinking. This will probably work best for people in US because of shipping rates, but if overseas people want to join in on the awesome food trade network, we can work something out. Whenever you make a meal, bake a batch of cookies, or pick up a locally made delectable just buy a little extra for a few other people. We can figure out who is interested in this idea and start getting everyone's info together. Send the goods out via UPS/Fedex to the people on your list. Then other people on the list send other their foodstuffs and you soon get treats in the mail. I figure only a few people to do this, but if we get it going, for a few extra bucks a month you get so much more than you have to put into it.

I already am sending a TFPer some sweet tea packets that you can only get in the south. I know alot of us are in geographically different locations and that can mean alot of new and locally made items to trade. If we get just a few people doing this, it will be such a great thing for those involved. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Also, I'm researching mason jar canning techniques from some personal experts I know. When I get all the compiled data from them, I'll post it for anyone that is interested. That way some good cooked items can be sent at room temperature through the mail system.

Edit: Somethings I'm willing to ship:

Chili (if the canning goes through)
Pickled items (okra, peppers, pickles) some made by me others by locals
Cookies/Breads (I'm going to start baking soon)
Anything southern. Country Ham, Sweet Tea, Fried Snack Foods, Moon-pies.

I'll list more when I learn about canning.

I'd be happy to share some homemade, home canned applesauce. I can personally guarantee it's delicious! We're also planning on canning some other things. As that occurs, I'll post what we've made here.

Snowy's applesauce?! Be still my heart.
I'll be able to do seeds, hopefully, in a month or two if anyone wants to try plantings.

If this canning of the chili thing works, I'm in on that. I don't know that triple-fudge brownies would hold.

Creme eggs = best candy on earth.

I stock up on them at Easter and keep them in the freezer for as long as they'll exist in mah house. And they are way good frozen if you can't wait for them to thaw lol.

I can send some milk and sour cream, but I'm not willing to spend the extra money for express shipping so it will probably take 3-5 days. Also, to save on shipping, I'll have to put them in the same container.

I'm interested, but I don't know what I'd be able to contribute other than baked goods, and it seems it would be easier to share those via a recipe exchange.
