Another Scotch Question

You have single malt and blended scotchs, yes? Do you only add water to the blended? Or is it OK to add water to both? Yes I realize that you can do whatever tastes best but what do the scotch snobs have to say about the subject. Much thanks.

I've been told by a few "scotch snobs" that it is becoming more acceptable to add water to single malt scotch nowadays. It doesn't really change the flavour, but it lowers the alcohol content. That way you can drink more of it, like you would wine.

Personally, I drink it neat. But that's because I like it that way.

i believe its ok to add water to both single and blended.
i was told that adding water is something that new scotch drinkers do... so i guess if you´re starting out on your lifelong scotch adventure on single malts, then i guess its ok...

I was in the restaurant business for a number of years...Few scotch drinkers ever added water to unblended scotch...Some would ask for scotch on the rocks, but most drank the more expensive unblended "neat"...This could have been merely our customers or an area type preference.

it doesn't lower the alcohol content - the booze is still the same regardless of what or how much you add to it... it just dilutes it and the flavor flattens out
