fresh fast food

Am I the only person who hates fast food places that use fresh produce? I just don't think they taste all that great, and since the produce has to be fresh, it's pretty gross when the meat is hot, (Subway, ). I know it's healthier, but somehow, if the burger is fresh, then all the taste goes out the door and you're eating tomato and lettuce flavoured burgers whatever dressing/meat you choose.

Disagree? Agree?

I Disagree.

I'll discuss hamburgers. Lettuce is there to make things crunchy and there's almost no taste to it anyway so why would you want old, wilted lettuce? Tomatoes are there because of the tomato taste (sorta like ketsup, sorta not). The same goes for onions and whatever else you want.
Fresh always tastes better for all things food (except for chili... it starts getting good at 2-3 days old). If you just want the taste of the hamburger, then why bother putting any toppings on it?

I disagree as well. I have yet to meet someone that actually prefers processed and old ingredients to fresh. I don't even put fast food in my system anymore - and I don't take comments of fast food tasting good with much validity. Regardless...to each his own. Tomatoes lose all their flavor at a certain refridgeration point, and like THGL said, lettuce (at least iceberg, which is the standard fast food burger lettuce) is virtually flavorless and there for texture purposes.

Totally disagree. Fresh is best. Why anyone would want to eat a nasty limp piece of lettuce is beyond me.

All fresh, all the time. I don't even buy canned food unless it's tuna.

P.S. Taco Bell (sometimes) but it's gross.

I don't have an opinion on the matter, but IMHO no one is answering the original question. It isn't "Do you prefer stale veggies to fresh veggies?". It is "On hot fast food, do you find that fresh veggies merely cause the loss of texture and flavor from the fast food?".

By the way, most of the flavor of the meat in fast food comes from chemical additives that smell like meat.

So to those who disagreed, (which is everyone ) what do you usually eat for dinner? Because my I eat chinese (and there's plenty of salt involved), so that may be my problem, I find fresh too flavourless.

Tomatoes: too watery and I hate the taste, (pasta, chilli, whatever, I can't stand it)
Lettuce: I don't mind lettuce, as long as it's the green leaves
Onions: if you don't cook those, the taste is too sharp

However, I do love the bread from Subway and wish they would sell it by itself.

Okay, fresh tastes best -- I can go down to the local farmer's market and make an "ordinary" salad out of fresh ingredients that truly tastes spectacular. But fresh at fast food restaurants -- that's another thing.

The only thing I might suggest are falafel joints; I like a good falafel sandwich with falafel, crunchy lettuce, cucumber, some onions, maybe a little tomato, and a yogurt sauce, all in a pita pocket. Pretty fresh and pretty tasty.
