4 right now, but when I boot the computer there's a whole damn flood of them. It's a real hassle, cause I can't delete them out of the StartUp menu, partially because they're not IN the StartUp menu.

The ones that are there right now are...

Task Scheduler
Colors Wizard
Gateway GoBack
wapScript 3 pro

Go to Start>Run and type in msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck those few programs that you have to shut down manually. Don't worry about rebooting until later.

Actually there is, but it's used so little you probably don't even realize it (Of course, if you're not using Gnome or KDE I don't think there is a system tray)

So, in my KDE system tray I have...*drumroll*...klipper (clipboard management tool)

In Windows there are a couple things - AIM and a couple others - I think the total is something like 4.

One thing you can do with redundant behind the scenes programs is look at their names in your Ctrl-Alt-Delete menu, put the program names into google or www.answersthatwork.com to find their identity and then figure out if they can or should be permanently stopped. Loadqm was one of the first things I disabled.

I'll join in with the ever popular 9.

Basically, that's because I haven't cleaned 'em out in a while. Here's the list: antivirus, cookie killer, mouse, touchware, volume control, pop-up killer, palm sync, quicktime, and msn messanger.

I used to have none at all, because I was worried about slowdown. But then I went nuts and added everything I always wanted to my desktop, and discovered it didn't slow down one bit. So I kept it! Yay.

Let's see... PCMCIA thingy, Volume Control, Battery Power Meter, Kazaa Lite, Norton AV, Keyboard thingy for laptop FN key, Web2Pop, Privoxy, Y'z Shadow, Wireless Network Status, LAN Network Status, Winamp, Trillian, M$ Outlook, And two custom apps I wrote to control Winamp with the Windows key and do other random stuff.
