Peter Piper's missing peck of pickled peppers?

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. There is a peck of pickled peppers that Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, where is the peck of pickled peppers that Peter Piper picked?

A ponderous puzzle: peppers, when picked by the peck, are not yet pickled, as pickling proceeds the picking process of peppers. Properly, a peck is picked whereupon peppers are pickled.

I propose Peter Piper picked a peck of peppers to be pickled and the peck of peppers is still being pickled.

I learned it this way:
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickle peppers.
A peck of pickle peppers Peter Piper promptly picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickle peppers,
where is the peck of pickle peppers Peter Piper picked?

A "pickle pepper" being a kind of pepper, like a "canning tomato" or a "baking apple."
A regional difference in the rhyme, perhaps.

Here's another one:
All around the (fill in the blank) the monkey chased the weasel.
I learned "mulberry bush" but I've also heard "cobbler's bench," "vinegar jug," and "flagpole."

Perhaps Peter's piping pre-pickles his peppers?

Pruriently perceived, Peter's pecker prevails.
