NERF GUNS ARE AWESOME

So, I have picked up a new hobby: Nerf guns!

It's the cheapest hobby I've ever had...way cheaper than Airsoft. I can get one of the better pistols for $6 at walmart (rather than $150), and the best guns you can buy are $20-$30! There is a HUGE community (many communities, in fact) online, and tons of aftermarket support for modding them to be something Nerf probably never intended

Here's my arsenal so far:

Back Left, going forward:
Longshot (just picked up tonight)
Two Mavericks
Two NiteFinders (one modded with a spring replacement)
Two Secret Shot Pocket Blasters (one without its housing)

Middle:
AirTech2000
Big Ass Pile of Assorted Darts

Unopened on the right:
Secret Shot Pocket Blaster
Airtech2000
Nite Finder
30 darts (10 whistlers and 20 for the LongShot)

Supplies:
Small hacksaw
Superglue
Gorilla Glue
Dremel
#49 Ace Hardware spring to put in a NiteFinder

Not shown:
A Maverick in the process of being modded
Hi Temp Glue gun
8' of 1/2" CPVC to make custom barrels
4" steel barrel giong to be modded onto a nitefinder
8" steel barrel to be modded into an AirTech 2000

I've bought all of this stuff in the past week or two, and I think I've spent less than $120, almost half of it being tools. I'm going to try to organize some nerf wars locally, which shouldn't be too hard, as I live on a college campus!

Even without any organization, my wife and I love chasing eachother around the house...makes for a great drinking game.

If anyone is interested, I'll post a tutorial on how to take the $6 gun you can buy at walmart, add a $1 spring from ace hardware and a $.30 cent bolt and some superglue and have a nerf gun capable of shooting 60 feet or more, and leaving decent welts from close range.

Seriously, everyone, if you have a cool girlfriend, or roommates, and are bored, drive to walmart RIGHT NOW and pick up a pair of Mavericks--they're NERF REVOLVERS for goodness sake, and at only $7 each, and it is the highest fun per dollar value I've ever had :)

I'm taking pictures for my Steel Barrel modification (hehe) but if you're interested, go running around to nerfhq.com and nerfhaven.com...those are two pretty good jumping off points into the world of foam.

Walmart has good prices on the NiteFinder and the Maverick, Targets mostly carry the full line if you want something bigger like a Titan, Big Bad Bow, or LongShot (although some walmarts have Longshots), and Kohls has cheap ammunition, AirTech 2000, and Secret Shot PB's.

Tutorial being posted soon :)

Is this retaliation for never letting you in my Nerf House? :p

Sounds awesome .. hit up the Housing activities director and I'm sure they'd love to get some people involved - they always need ideas for activities!

Oh, the memories! My love for all things Nerf evolved into a love for paintball, but I definitely wouldn't mind picking up a new Nerf gun. I'm giddy for the tutorial.

I posted the tutorial up over in Weapons, since it just deals with a single nerf gun, and not the gaming associated with it :)

Enjoy, as that took WAY TOO LONG to write up...damn my being a tutorial perfectionist!

Oh, man, we have Nerf wars at work all the time!! Its great fun! We usually end up throwing the darts at each other after the guns are all unloaded!

It helps to work for a gaming company where this kinda stuff is "normal" :)

Oh, BTW, you'd be surprised at how fast and hard you can make these darts go with a 3'-4' length of PVC pipe in the right diameter....its perfect for these darts! One guy at work went as far as duct taping an el cheapo laser to use as a sight!!

Ah...good times....good times.
