Hi all. Steam is letting PC users play L4D for free startin at 12:01 am GMT Friday for 24 hours. (As in Thursday night, 8PM Eastern time, tonight) You can pre-load the game now so that you don't have to fight for it later.

Thanks! Not to mention they're selling it for $24 bucks this weekend. Sweet deal, my friend's finally gonna get it now.

Steam may not be perfect, but I like the way they do some things a lot. Letting people try a full game like UT3 or L4D for a day or two, and slashing prices is way cool. Demos are fine, but getting the entire game to try out is great. And $24 for L4D? Hell yeah.

I took advantage of the free trial to play my first Left 4 Dead game with Baraka_Guru today. They've sucked me into taking advantage of the sale price and buying it this weekend. Baraka says I'm a natural born zombie killer, so when the zombie apocalypse does finally come I guess I'll be set.

man, if only they had done this last weekend... but I already bought the orange box last weekend, and there is no way I am buying a new game now.

You know I don't play a whole lot of games anymore these days, but if there is a large community here that plays this online I might just have to buy it. I have always enjoyed playing online games with friends but all my friends have shitty computers now that can't handle new games, and playing with people you don't know (Sure I don't technically know you guys) is not nearly as fun.

Here's something weird: Time for the free game should be up, and the Steam menu doesn't show any time left, but I can still play L4D. Not that I'm complaining.

I noticed that too. I think it'll stay until the next time Steam restarts.

I bought the game anyway. There's worse things I could spend $25 on.

I've been drooling over TFP's accounts of Left4Dead mayhem for a while now, but I doubt that the video card in this laptop could handle it. Also, the Internet service here is sporadic.

24 Dollars is almost obscene for that....

It's so good I don't even care that I got in at 50 the day it came out.

If you're looking for more but a bit different, and cheaper, might want to check this out

Just an independent group of modders that eventually went retail
