Games you never finished, but want to
What games have you played, but never finished? Of those, what would you like to finish? It's an interesting question to me, because I have a habit of playing a game most of the way through, and never beating it. Short attention span, I guess.
My list! Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and Neverwinter Nights: Couldn't stick with them... BG2 I really did want to finish, but some bug occurred, and my AI scripts were totally disabled and I couldn't stand the game anymore. Final Fantasy X: Got to Sin twice, got my memory cards wiped twice. Soul Reaver... stopped somewhere around Boss 2. Every GTA except Vice City, despite being one of my favorite game series. Shinobi - Hard game... fun, but hard. Legacy of Legaia. Lots more come to mind, but I could be here till tomorrow telling you. So, what do you good folks have? |
final fantasy 9-couldnt be bothered
fallout 2- i got so close but my cd had an error on it just before i fought the big boss person and i never got another cd. mafia-just stopped playing for some reason and starting to get back into it |
Final Fantasy X I was killed by the final boss once and quit and never felt the need to play it again.
Xenogears I've tried playing it alot but just cant stay interested long enough. Parasite Eve 2 close to the end but got another game and lost interest. Contra on PS2. HARD AS HELL! |
If a game is good I finish it. If its bad I just don't ever finish it. One exception to that is GTA3 which was a good game but I had some major bug issues with it :(
|
FF8, FF-Tactics, seems like a small trend no? Mostly square titles...
|
My list is too long. I have a bad habit of never finishing my games. In fact, I can only think of half a dozen offhand that I've finished. Megatraveller 1, Fallout 1 and 2, Max Payne, Civilization 2...
But I've also played many games that have no real ending, like Dark Age of Camelot, Sim City, and the Sims. I got real close to finishing Baldur's Gate 2 and Alpha Centauri, but most games I play for a while then get bored or frustrated with: Mafia, Hitman2, Divine Divinity, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 , the Morrowind expansion...all good games, but I either got really stuck somewhere, got bored or both. |
....
Final Fantasy 8.....I got about halfway through and I just decided to stop. The gameplay and the story just weren't doing anything for me.
|
It would be nice if I could get past that stupid "Test of Fear" in Star Fox Adventures, and get on with the rest of the game.
That was a stupid game-breaker right there for me. |
Ya know, I never did get around to playing Quake 2 all the way through.. or Half Life.
|
ICO.. i got to the halfway point and stopped. Mostly due to the fact taht i dont own a ps2 and my roommate at the time and I no longer live together.
|
FF8 - I think I still have this. I just never really had any desire to keep playing it.
GTA3 GTA3: Vice City - Both of these piss me off because I hate trying and failing the same mission a million times in a row before I finally get lucky and beat it. Bah. Maybe I just suq. Half Life - Got to the weird alien part or whatever and quit. |
FFX, I've played the whole damn game almost 3 times through but never finished it, my first time I didn't level Titus and I had a good Auron, the second time I didn't level Auron and I couldn't beat the Spectral Keeper the guy with glyph mines, and the third time....I just stopped caring.
FF7 - A glitch keeps me from collecting one of the master materia. BG2 : SoA - I played it hardcore foor a while and just decided it was eating too much of my life. Phantasy Star Online - I'm in world 3 with a really good character...two actually. But I'm just to lazy to finish the annoying quests where you gotta keep a guy alive. |
Chrono Trigger - got to the last boss and stopped playing
|
Quote:
|
Harpoon - The greatest war game ever.....never got to finish all the scenarios...
|
SiN
|
Ogre Battle on the snes/psx
Dark Cloud 2 on the ps2: i just keep puting it off never finished FF5 and can't say I want to mafia |
Games You Bought But Never Finished...
Usually when I buy a game I have every intention of completing it but sometimes you end up buying a stinker or the game just gets boring or even you just get too busy and forget all about it. So tell us, has this happened to you and for which games.
Me, Oni, I picked this up 'cause it was real cheap, played the first couple of levels and couldn't be bothered with it because the controls pissed me off. Grim Fandango, this too I bought cheap, I love the game but it felt like too much of a chore and it was too downbeat for me, plus the fact that I bought it years after it was released kinda made it outdated. Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, massive game but I've only played it once since buying it last week and there seem to be a million and one keys to remember, gimme Splinter Cell anyday! Donkey Kong Country on the GB, I had got myself to the cloud areas and I lent out my GB to a friend and the motherfucker deleted the savegame!!! I just couldn't be bothered choring through again though I thoroughly enjoyed the game. |
I'm about to add Legend of Zelda: Windwaker to that list because I just haven't had time to play it due to class lately.
But I never finished Donkey Kong Country 2, and it haunts me to this day. |
It drives me crazy when I'm unable to finish a game, but there's been a few that I've been unable to beat completely for sheer mass of crap to do--
Pokemon. Can't catch all the little furry punks. Donkey Kong Land 2-- Those stupid kremcoins are the bane of my existence. I can't find them all, and therefore, can't get all the DK coins. |
Oh shit, I never finished Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons for Gameboy either.
I'm a damn failure. |
Many games :D
But my type of game is open ended and there is no "end". SimCity, Civ, MOO, Conquest, airobiz, Starcraft... But I always get many many many hours of play out of them. :) Hell, I played Conquest the other day and it's 6 years old :D |
Morrowind. Great game, but there is so much stuff to do that I lost interest in it.
|
Morrowind.
I've had it for damn near a year now and I haven't gotten around to beating the main quest. But even if I picked it back up now I wouldn't know what the hell I was doing in the main quest. |
Oh, I just thought of 2 more. Metroid Fusion and Golden Sun both on the GBA. I think I am like one or two bosses away from finishing Metroid. I have no concept of how far I got in Golden Sun. I know I have at least 10-20 hours invested in that game.
|
Super Mario Bros., the original for NES. Never did finish that game
|
Final Fantasy 10.
Great game, I just rented it though, and instead of buying it bought a sports game. I still have the memory card save if I ever do get a hold of another copy. |
Half-Life
BTW, I beat EverQuest in 3 days lol |
I'll add to the Final Fantasy X, I was horribly weak when I got to Sin and got bored of leveling up.
|
Adding Final Fantasy X to my list, turn based combat is just wrong for starters, I'd like to play a game more than watch it and the story didn't have any pull for me, I didn't give a shit about the characters and to top it off, I don't care how Square thinks Tidus is pronounced, it should be pronounced as TIE-DUS not Tee-Dis... he looks gay already, at least give him a hard name.
|
Splinter Cell, I just can't bring myself to put in the game and start playing. :( I was right near the end too.
|
Baldur's Gate II and Conker's Bad Fur Day........played both nearly non-stop and went cold turkey one day
|
X-Com: Apocalypse was one. After 100 hours of playing over 10 days, I seemed to drain all my interest in the game in the process. This, despite I am still convinced I was within six hours of beating the game.
The other was Homeworld. However the computer it was on crashed, taking the savegames with it. Any time I work hard for something and I lose it to something like that, it's a real killjoy. |
GTA vice city: cant beat the driver mission don't konw why
and Sim tower: that one is just conspireing against me |

Lets see:
Morrowind III: I can't take it anymore!!! that main quest just got to me.... Shenmue II: Lost the disc Any of the Zelda games: I always start but never finish... Jet Set Radio: I'm stuck on the last boss Suikoden III: I'm stuck at the boss right before the final battle and got tired of dying repeatedly. Summoner 2: Loaned the game to someone & I forgot who... :( |
vandal hearts
brigandine final fantasy x gauntlet legends robotech contra: shattered soldier secret of mana secret of evermore |
Finished Morrowind but just can't finshed expansion pack.. especially because i wiped out my old character who i used to beat morrowind.
|
Morrowind
Got bored of walking around so much, and the battling was boring. Needed to switch to Unreal Tounament 2k3 or Return to Castle Wolfenstein |
I just started Zelda Windwaker and I'd like to see more of it, I got to the deku dungeon but that's it so far. It's such a pretty game to see in motion, the art is simple but the animation is incredible.
|
Blast Corps on N64 - I was really far and the game never ended.
FFIII (VI) - I need to find it. FFX - I'm playing it right now, right before Sin. Xenogears - damn memory card got erased. Gran Turismo 3 - Memory Card erased (again) Metroid Prime - my roommate moved his cube to his GF room. |
One day I will finish final fantasy tactics!!
That game is so incredibly hard to beat without cheating. I think I might hook up my playstation and give it another round. Zorgan: I am the exact same way with games. I've played games right up to the end and just simply got bored of it. |
I still gotta finish System Shock 2. Damn that game scared the shit outta me!
|
Duck Hunt
|
Lessee...
Chrono Cross- I just didn't like the magic system in this game, and I quit on the second disc about a year and a half ago. Mark of Kri- Lots of fun, but the stealth aspect of the game gets traded off for a nonstop killfest in the last level, and I gave up. Chances are I was only two or three rooms from the end. Super Mario Bros.- I never finished this one either, and it still bugs me a little. More than starting games and not finishing them, I'm bad about buying too many games and never getting around to playing them. I go to a lot of pawnshops and when I see a game there I've heard good things about for $10 or so, I have to pick it up. A few that have never even so much as made it to the the console are: Resident Evil Zero Skies of Arcadia Legends Legend of Dragoon FF IX Fear Effect Dragon Warrior 7 Vagrant Story I know, I admit I have a problem. It's the first step on the road to healing.:) |
Chrono Cross, and Ocarina of Time. Man - I got to some boss in OOT that I couldn't figure out the trick to, and I'm so hardcore against cheating or faqs before I beat it on my own, that I never got back to it. Chrono Cross got interrupted by FFX.
|
Homeworld. It's an amazing, intricate and very hard game, but it takes too long to recover if you screw up. I'd love to finish it, but I just don't have time to do it.
Anyone who's done the Junkyard Dog mission will know what I'm talking about... |
the first of many that come to mind is Turok.
|
morrowind: walking around was pretty but boring = pretty boring
parasite eve: saved at a point where my health was too low and I was fighting parasite eve immediately. no other save points for backup. ff7: whatever her name took my stuff and I was too pissed off trying to get it back. shenmue: same as morrowind. |
Half-Life: Became rather disinterested in the alien world. I got stuck at a seemingly easy part so I just gave up. Would like to finish some day though, just for the sense of completeness.
Age of Empires: Have been working on this one off and on for over a year. Just haven't been able to put the time into it lately. I am rather proud to say that last year I got my NES out of the closet and finished both the original Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Brothers. Hooray for me!!! |
On the PSX -
ALundra 2 & FF9 i've yet to find the time to finish these and games like these you cant just go back to your save game after not playing for 2+ months, you gotta start over to get teh feel for it :( :( :( :( Then theres: Galerians i bought this @ EBworld a long time ago, and have yet to even try it to see if it works |
metal gear solid for original playstation. i rented it and got almost to the end but i had to take it back. never bothered renting it again. i think i still have the game save. come to think of it i think i was out of missiles anyway so i was screwed regardless. i really do wanna finish that game. mgs2 was great.
|
Ninja Gaidien 2 on the original NES. I can never make it past that damned temple!!
|
i never finished the marine missions on alien vs. predator 2, always wondered how the storyline went with the marine, i should get it out and play again.
|
Lunar: Eternal Blue
|
I would have to say Shinobi for the PS2 and Vagrant Story for the PS. I like both of them but both are really hard. Too bad I don't own Vagrant Story anymore. I really want to re-purchase it and beat it.
|
GTA 3
FF 7 |
FF6...got to the very end and then just...stopped. Don't really know why - I still have the saved game, but it's een so long that I don't care as much anymore.
|
I think for me, I finish almost every game I play, unless I rent it and I have to return it...like Shinobi...That was frustrating damnit...
|

Also: Freedom Force - stuck on level with the dinosaurs Im usually pretty good about finishing a game once ive started it and i like it. Soooo many games though I get halfway through, hit a wall, and go "this game SUCKS!" and uninstall it in a fit of rage and never think about it again. (Hegemonia is a good example of that.) Some games I just get extremely bored of (Tropico 2, Black Hawk Down, Maden 2003) and they just sit on my hard drive for like 3 years until I need space fo rosmeting else and uninstall them. Tonight I just finished Viet Cong. That was a fun game! |
oh and C&C GENERALS!!!!!! I can NOT get past the last Chinese mission! I have had this game since the day it came out and have not played it in over a month because of that stupid level! I have tried passing it like 50 times!! Argh!!!!!!!1
|
Got pretty close to the end of FF6, but I got too bored trying to level up enough to beat the final boss...
I got stuck at one place in FF Tactics and have never bothered to try to finish it. Almost happened to me with Castlevania SOTN, but I borrowed the game from a friend about a year later and finally did finish it :) I got bored with Half-life pretty quickly. There just didn't seem to be much of a plot and I was wandering around endlessly trying to figure out where to go next. Same thing happened with Unreal (though Epic sent me that one for free so I can't really complain). |
Shadow Hearts, Xenogears, and Fallout 1, oddly enough, I stopped playing all of these due to problems in sewers....
|
Mike tysons punch out on NES. I still have it and cant beat it
|
Fallout 2.
|
splinter cell. got very close to the end then just stopped binging one day
|
Faxanadu (Im not joking). It was a hard game, if only because you had to remember the worst save codes. That game was the best reason to get memory on game cartridges.
|
Original TMNT on the Nintendo. If I finished that game I would be content.

Me, I couldn't seem to finish the first Tales of Destiny, got stuck in a dungeon and couldn't find my way out before running out of items.. just gave up.. trying to find it again though...... didn't finish Lunar 2 or Legend of Dragoon either, some other game came out that just drained my interest. And who could forget Morrowind, the biggest god damn waste of an engine that should have had multiplayer capabilities. That game would be great if I could talk to someone other than myself... |
<b>Max Payne</b>(PS2) - Got stuck on some point and lost interest. Gonna play it through someday though.<br>
<b>Metal Gear Solid 2: The sons of liberty</b>(PS2)- The ending with the zillion gazillion metal gears is just too much for me... maybe someday I'll try again.<br> <b>The return to castle Wolfenstein</b>(PC) - Actually no reason why I didn't finish this one, probably because I spent some 3 days inside playing it constantly... some kind of overflow :) still going to finish it someday. |
System Shock 2. Great game, eerie as hell but it lost me in the end alien ship levels, much like Half life did in the alien dimension.
Legend of Zelda: Link Awakening for the original Gameboy. Couldn't get past the end bosses. |
Black N' White: got to boring to get to the ending. Not that there really was one I think.
Alice: I just needed more time. HL: Zen levels really bored me, otherwise great game. Max Payne: still playing, sorta. Problem I have is that my kids play the games while im at work and I get to see the ending ruining it for me :( |
Vandal Hearts for the PS, always heard it was better than FF Tactics but never got much time to play it.
|
GTA3
GTA3: Vice City |
X-Com for Playstation.... Have to finish that soon or I'll die.
|
Final Fantasy X
Starcraft: Broodwars (4 Zerg missions to go and I stopped...) |
Mobieus, Auto Duel
|
There is no end to the list i've games I just haven't finished, so I will post the more recent ones:
Morrowind(PC)-having too much fun doing the other quests and trying to enchant my way to being god! Golden Sun(GBA)-Got to the desert and realized I hadn't leveled up enough and that it takes too long to do. Splinter Cell(XBox)-Will finish it someday, just some parts can be very difficult. dont like repeating one mission over and over Halo(XBox)-kept falling asleep from the repetition. Dark Cloud(PS2)-Don't want to beat it without having the strongest weapons on all the characters FFX(PS2)-Didn't level up enough throughout game and couldnt beat a boss, plus leveling up in the area around him was difficult so i said fuck it. Thats all I can think of right now, but Ill probably put more on soon, unless i just dont feel like finishing this post |
The game that most saddens me about not finishing is Savage Empire, an obscure Worlds of Ultima RPG made in 1990. You are the Avatar, in the service of Lord British, when you and Dr. Rafkin's laboratory are sent back in time to the time of dinosaurs in the land of Eodon, you have to find your friends and your girlfriend, unite the tribes, destroy the Myrmidex scourge, and get home. But the game doesn't work too well, or at least not with sound (and that's pointless) on the higher end Windows 95 and up systems, so once I installed Win95 in tenth grade -- 1997 -- I haven't been able to play so many great old games, at least not well. I think my copy is buggy, too. :(
As for current games I haven't finished, I got to one of the last parts of Xen in Half-Life and just stopped, it gets dumb; I might finish it someday, but I doubt it. I never finished any of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, but I want to now that I got the versions that support OpenGL graphics. I never beat Jedi Outcast, but I saw how it ends, so that's good enough for now. On the consoles, I got to Bowser's lair in Mario 3, died, and just turned it off, so I never beat that, and I did pretty much the same thing with Scar in the Genesis version of The Lion King; got to the end, died, and realized what a waste of time it'd be to win the game. |
silent hill on psx, was to afraid=/
|
Beating FFX was extremely easy, yet there doesn't seem to be anyone here who actually beat it. Games I didn't pass... Brave Fencer Musashi, Fallout 1 & 2, Morrowind... thats it. I usually keep playing a game until I beat it or I just really, *really* done care at all anymore. Takes a while for me to get to that point.
|
ive beaten FFX, it really helps to have all the final weapons(damn chocobo balloon thing)
|
Zelda: Windwaker - Just didn't have time to play for a week or so, and never went back to it. Someday I will finish it!
GTA:Vice City - Waiting till I can afford the PC version and play with a mouse and keyboard. Sniping with a joystick is just not fun at all. Eternal Darkness - Same as Zelda... put it down.. never went back.. Neverwinter Nights - Just lost interest after a while. Didn't pull me in the same as Baldur's Gate did. Would like to see the whole story someday though... Metroid Prime - Once again... put it down.. never went back... |
I'm hoping I'll get a chance to finally finish FFX soon, I rented it when my old roommate had a PS2, but I didn't have time to finish it, plus I was getting kinda sick of it. We don't live together anymore, but now that I'm immobilized with a hernia, he's going to lend it to me and I think my save is still on his card. I'm hoping to give Xenosaga a try, and I might dust off my old copy of Chrono Cross, I got stuck at some guy in the middle (Miguel?) and got tired of trying.
|
MOnkey Island, just stop playing and forgot about it a year ago at least.., this thread has reminded me thought ill dig it our later.
|
Good news all!
I finally stopped being lazy and have started to finish FFX! I level up my characters, or sphered up should I say, yesterday and beat a boss, I tried my luck against Yunalesca but I lost, I need to recharge my aeons Overdrives and just take her out like that. |
Landstalker for Sega Genesis. Sold the system before I finished the game. Regrets.
|
Harvester. Got too scared as a kid and it wasn't my game but then-bf's so I couldn't pick it up and start playing again later.
|
I never could kill the last boss at the end of Jet Force Gemini for the N64. Then my comp died taking my Neverwinter Nights save game with it. And before both of those, I never finished Zelda: Link's Awakening on the gameboy. And many, many others. I just suck at videogames, for the most part.
|
Shinobi Revenge Of The Ninja Master.
Was my absolute favourite on the Sega Genesis, but alas, 'twas too hard for me when I always got to the last level with only 2/3 lives left...but I intend to get a new Genesis, and the game in question. Oh and there's that alternate ending in Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, the on where you have to finish Ganon (except for the final blow) with only normal arrows. I've never done it, cos when he smashes those pillars arrow don't always come out. Bugger! |
I never did finish Thief: The Dark Project, or Descent: Freespace, but I plan to someday.
|
I want to finish Tomb Raider : The Last Revelation. Played that one for months on end whenever I had some free time, but I need to get back to it. I'm still stuck trying to get the detenator and codes from the one soldier so I can get the truck and kill the dragon.
|
i've played an insane amount of abandon ware and i rarely finish alot of it since i dont have enough free time. since my comp broke i've been chipping away large portions of my life with final fantasy orgins. since i could never beat the final boss when i was 10
|
Quote:
ROFLMAO! That thing was too easy! I got it first or second try. Tidus had the EASIEST weapon to get. I have alll the Ult weapons but only Tidus', Yuna's, and Auron's and full power. The other characters I don't use as much. And I COULD beat up sin right now probably cuz I have all my aeons and overdrives (cept Blitz Ace but I gotta be close) I'm still running around Omega ruins killing stuff, and working on Wakka's World Champ to get it maxed. But I'm close, ever so close. I've played for 15 hours like in the last week. |

|
I got old ones in my broom closet:
The original Gauntlet...got to level 89 or so, and just could not take any more repetition. Panzer Dragoon: Normal mode only let you get to level 3, and Hard mode was too damn hard. |
Shenmue 2 and Skies of Arcadia
I started playing them and they were awesome, but for some reason I just stopped playing them... |
hmm.. Zelda for gameboy the first one i forgot what its called, and Final Fantasy X
|
I have yet to finish GTA 3. I want to do the final mission with everything else done, but I have 99 packages and didn't keep track of which ones I do/don't have, leaving me scouring the entire city for one package. ARGH!!!
