FFTA
i played one hour in FFTA and am pleasantly surprised. i made the mistake of reading a review prior to playing that made me just kind of sigh softly to myself.
so........ if anyone cares this is the d/l for the moment. the story is more kid friendly so far. not really childish, just a lot lighter than Ramza's tale so far. the graphics are quite pretty and has a neat coloring filter-ish option that adjust to the gba, sp, or tv (via gamecube). the battle system is very familiar to Tactics players but has some odd twists that is pretty damned cool. you have Laws in every "engagement" that turn off certain options during the battle. one battle will disalow item usage, some disalow the fight command or using a sword. You can break them, however, with bitchslap that looks fairly exploitable so far. basically if it says items and you use an item you get kicked out of the fight and pay a small fee. now here's the kicker from my POV. i'm playing this via rom and em BUT I own both the GBA and i bought FFTA today so no preachy preachy, my eyes are fucked and i'm not paying money for an items that is 'less fucked'. great game so far. |

Question:
Umm, I failed a mission, where you send a guy out and he comes back later after a few days or after a few battles. Will the mission ever come back so I can not suck? And I know this is super-lame of me too, but I hate choosing weapons and armor for all my units. Its too time consuming. I know, I know, its part of the game, and it unlocks different abilities. But still, I'd much rather just toss them on a map and kill a couple of fools than spend a few minutes customizing my guys/gals.

sometimes i think these developers simply try too hard. try so hard that they fuck up what seems like a simple plan.
i am really into FFTA but...... the fact that only certain races can have certain jobs pisses me off. and the ability system is the same as vandel hearts 2 - thankfully gold is plentiful. it's like a beautiful person with a huge mole on their forehead. bleh |

I plan to buy this as soon as I get some extra cash.
Does anyone know if the number in the TV commercials for FFTA is real or not? It's 1-866-PLY-2WIN or something like that. I might try it myself, but since I'm at work right now, I'll wait a bit. |

Yeah, I was wondering about the combo system too. I know that you max out at 10 JP's, so no problems there. What I am having problems with is trying to figure out how to increase my chances of Multiple people actually Comboing... Not just the one guy doing his shtick by himself.
EDIT : just read a faq on gamefaqs (not reading the walkthough... like I really need it for all the Missions Just kill everything that moves!!!) Quote:

After a battle starts(you've already placed your guys and pressed start), press B, then Start. Then go to the Law Cards menu to see which laws are in effect. Then press A on that menu to bring up your cardlist to start negating laws or adding them.
I think you can do it while placing people, but you just press select while doing it. |

I've been addicted to this game for about a week now. Have 24 hours of play in. Love the job system, slowly building up my characters. Avoid playing missions and just build up by fighting other clans, its so addicting.
I wish my friends had some money to do the same, so we could duel. Oh and make sure you select LCDB if you have the GBASP, while LCDA is for the original and not-as-cool GBA. Last edited by Tiser; 11-12-2003 at 02:19 AM.. |

I finished the game a week or so ago, like the original, it was pretty slow-paced and monotonous for the first few hours, but once your clan members have a good selection of skills the game gets a lot more fun. The law system was more of a nuisance to me than anything, I found I was wandering around the map waiting for a day with decent laws before I would take on a mission.
I liked the race/job system, but I found it heavily favored humans, especially since they were the only race who could learn the almighty Double Sword ability (which lets you learn 2 skills at once, or one skill twice as fast). The game seemed imbalanced by the end, moreso than the original. There were very few challenging battles, and the only challenge from some of them was making sure you stole every rare/unique item before killing everyone (the last time you fight Ritz's clan) Overall, I thought it was a great game with tons of flexibility and replay value. I hope Square Enix decides to make another Tactics on a home console soon. |
