Jedi Academy Demo

Has anyonce else checked it out yet? It's super sweet, although it's alot like Jedi Outcast. But damn, the light sabers are so sexy.

I disagree with you with my heart and soul (including me pee-pee) but why don't you like it?

I played the Pre-Gold Beta that was leaked a while back, great game, but I gave it back to a friend halfway through, don't wanna spoil it for when I buy it this month

I liked it, but the battles on the 2nd demo missions were so weird. I would either totally stomp the living hell out of the other jedi, or they would do it to me. its never a "close fight" its just lots of saber sparks until one person is left..

maybe im just playing it wrong.

is this demo like the Jedi Outcast demo, as far as the level(s) aren't in the final game? I'm in the middle of playing Academy, but wouldnt mind a couple new levels after I'm done.

I have the full game and IMO JK2 was a much harder game.I liked JK3 but i defiantly lacked any challenge for me.

If the game lacked challenge, then play it on jedi master. If I hear anyone who thinks it lacked challenge on that level, I wouldn't even believe it til i see it. Some jedi are harder than others, and sometimes you just get a stroke of bad luck. Force powers are much much more important this time around.

As for the buggyness, its terrible. The mission where you have to play on the planet with acid rain, kyle was attacking me for the first 8-10 loads. If hit a few invisible walls, and in one hangar, all the debris was in the wrong spot. With a 1.1 patch or somesuch, game will be incredible again.

It looks pretty cool. Might be the first game I will buy in a long time.

I had some difficulty with understanding how much control I had over the lightsaber, and never really did figure out how to fight in those saber-lock moments.

Definitely enjoy the graphics. This thing is made from the Quake 3 Engine isn't it? It is amusing to me how many games are still using that engine. :\ Wish developers would make their own.

Yep, but there isnt always a cliff to toss them off, and eventually you'll find yourself pushed off a cliff. To fight in a saberlock, CLICK REALLY REALLY FAST and youll knock him over.

well in JK2 you could force grip face themt owards the ceiling and then force push that had the same effect as a cliff I think soon as I had grip 3 thats how everyone died it was quite amusing to me.

well instead of killing everyone the same way if you have a problem with it, just add some challenge, ie don't do the same thing every time

just finished playing the demo, and I have to say....It frickin rocks. I like JK2, but this blows it out of the water. I like that you can customize the character, and the sabre, and the sabre style (one blade, dual blades, double-bladed). I'm not a terribly huge star wars fan, but this game has me excited.

I especially love the slo-mo death scenes, a very nice touch.

The demo is cool...but so similar to JK Outcast. Almost too similar for me. Of course, the double saber and updated graphics do look cool, but I was hoping for something different from JK Outcast. If the single player missions sound worth it (i.e. not similar to Outcast), I might pick it up...

supposedly you can do missions in whatever order you choose, sort of a "pick-your-own-adventure" type deal. Obviously you wind up in the same place (the end of the game) but as they say, its the journey that makes it worthwhile.

I liked the last game and I think I'm going to like this game as well if the demo is any indication of its quality. Customizing your character wasn't great but it will most likely be better in the final version.

The demo looks very much like Outcast. I loved Outcast with my heart and soul but for some reason the demo's graphics just look too dated. The animation with Luke and Kyle talking in the briefing was just plain god awful. The walking animations just suck too, mainly noticable in the cutscenes.

But the same gameplay that I love is still there, along with dual sabers (I'm not a fan of the Saber-staff). I like some of the extra polish they put on force power animations such as the distorted visuals coming from the hand when using force push. You can also force grip dead bodie and their seems to be some sort of ragdoll physics too, but not much.

Why did they change the force lightning to blue? I like it so much better when it was purple.

I thought I'd use the duel sabres nonstop, but as it turns out I seem to be better with the staff. The duals have more power to them, I think, but the staff has more grace and fluididity to it. There are some parts of the demo when I get my ass kicked using the duals, but I tear through with the staff.

Still like the duals though, probably going to go through the game once with both.

Then multiplay out the wazoo .

On a side note, I hope the modding community takes full advantage of the ability to add new model "items" (e.g. shirts, pants, faces) and saber hilts. Of course, I probably don't need to worry, 'cause if people take to this one like they did to the last one, we'll have more content than we know what to do with.

And that's what I love.

I keep fucking up the second level of the demo cos the guy you play jumps so god damn far. I keep misjudging and falling to my doom. Although having a ruck with two light sabres is probably worth several replays.

It seems very similar to JK2, however, perhaps TOO similar...

i've played through the demo and i really liked it, but i'm surprised this is being sold as a whole new game. pretty much the same graphics and gameplay, with *some* improvements and additions, but i wouldn't say its enough to warrant it as a sequel.

Its better than Jedi Outcast, but at the same time the game still has some things about it that warrant a bullshit flag from myself.
I'd explain why but I would prefer people to play the game without knowing anything about it.

Really linear..but new so I like it.

What's the staff exactly? Is it a regular lightsaber, or the Darth Maul style?

The Staff is the Maul Saber (double-ended), I like the standard single-saber the best but the community seems to like the dual sabers combo ala Anakin vs Dooku Ep2.

I figured everyone would use the double-ended and the dual sabers.... just because they're new. I wonder if there's any difference for damage and defensive statistics.

The Maul style saber is much more badass imo.

The alternate attack is a kick that knocks your opponent down, which you can follow up with a downward stab.

I finally got the full game, and I think it's pretty bad-ass. The single player has a ton of bugs, but multi is really cool. The funny thing is that in single player I'm better with the staff, but in multi I seem to be better with dual. strange.

And yes, a ton of people use the staff and duals, which is what everyone was afraid of to begin with. But I think that when the "newness" of them dies down, more people will use single.

I played it a bit, and it seemed almost identical to jk2. While I did enjoy that one quite a bit, I eventually played it out. This demo made me feel like it was the same old game but with some new moves to learn. I guess I was dissapointed with the lack of advance, but it's probably all good if you're crazy about lightsabers
