I just started playing Far Cry last night. It's awesome, I love it so far. The graphics are amazing, although it is killing me softly because I only have a Athlon 2000+ with a Geforce4 ti4200, and although it looks good (and smooth) in a combo of medium and high settings, I desparately want to play it with all details and antialiasing on.
BUT ANYWAY...
How do you get out of the carrier? I get to the top and there is a chopper and about a dozen mercs waiting for me, and even with full health, i don't stand a chance. I can go back down and outside and take out the chopper gunner, but I still can't get past the mercs. any advice??

I've only played the demo so I don't know what you're talking about, but you could try drawing them out with blind fire...bring them to where you are in small amounts where you can just mow them down.

Easy as! As soon as you come up the ladder ironsight the guy in the helicopter and shoot him out. Now take cover by the boxes immediately to your left and to your right there should be a guy hiding behind a box, take him down. Now, around the corner of the boxes you're hiding behind you should see a sort of mast railing thing, there's a guy up there with a mounted canon, toast him. Now all you gotta do is peek around corners, duck and cover and take out all the bad guys, there's a total of 8 I believe.

Once that's all done go to the boat and shoot the chains and jump in.

Lol, it took me like 20 min to figure this one out back when I was at this level.

I was to po'd when I figured that out, so simple.. yet I was so blind.

If you are really good, which I was not the first time I went through that level, you can shoot the chains that hold the bridges strung across the big hole in the ship. If you do that fast enough, quite a few of the guys coming across will drop to their deaths.

The part with the inflatable boat is just badly designed, IMO. There's no real indication of how to release it into the water. Otherwise a great game, though.

Thanks for the help,
i was able to take out the helicopter gunner, but I always seemed to get mowed down from behind, maybe I didn' t take cover well enough, obviously.
Anyway, I will give it try when I get a chance. i shouldn't have started playing it now, i will be out of town most of the next 2.5 weeks, and I keep thinking about it. Mark of a good game, i guess.

I completed it in about 14-15 hours .

I got a film of me landing on a patrol boat with a hanglider, while the guys on the boat are trying to shoot me. Muahhaah

I need help w/ the demo, I'm at the part where a helicopter is in the sky, and guys are repelling out of the helicopter.

what, the first demo, just stay alive for a little while, and doyle will unlock the door for you to proceed.

and you only play the demo. go to your nearest game store as fast as your feet can move. my god this game is the most fun ive had since ........ omg i cant remember. and im not finished. i just passed one of the most wicked levels on all of gaming, i think its called boat, awesome

if you fall into the water befor you release the boat you can swim (north i think) a bit till you git the land (carrier is still next to you) and shoot out the chain with the M4. it falls and you sail away.

I got past it, the hard way.

I just read that you can lean out the side of the carrier, and shoot the chains holding the boat, then jump in the water and take off. probably have to take out the helicopter gunner first.

I just went up the ladder and immediatly headed toward the tower with the turret on it. I took out the guy before he could start using it, climed the ladder, took out the helicoptor, then picked off the rest of the guys easily. Only took one try

By the way, just got the game today, and I have to say it's the most beautiful game I have ever played! Lucky for me I have an ATI radeon 9800 pro and a p4 3.2c with a gig of ram to maximize the experience

Or, you can go down to a lower deck an take out the helicopter from the side gangway, then head to the top deck to deal with the bad guys.

maybe im unique, but I killed most of the enemies on top of the carrier BEFORE I went in... they didnt come back, and there was only like 2-3 new guys that spawned, easy pickens

Jeez... I wish I'd been ninja-like on this level...

It took me 2hrs to finally pass this level because I was determined to beat it the old-blood and guts way.

I wound up running across the deck, taking the turret guard out and then using the turret to smoke the chopper (blew it up). Then, I used the m16 to take out the rest of the crowd on the deck (without taking out the bridge).

any idea if I'll be able to play this on a p4 2.8 w/ 1GB ram and an Ati Radeon 9700? Will it be too slow?

oh and make use of cover, pop up and kill the gunner of teh chopper, empty the clip into the door. then take cover on any thing you can find, moveaway from the objective and circle around, let the mercs come to you and use teh gas cans to your advantage, when they get close blow them up with a burst. i just got through it on realistic, so you can do it to.
