Candyland VS Chutes and Ladders ("Best. Game. Ever. contest")

these are classics people...classics...but which one will rule boardgame champion?!

Kadath 06-07-2004 09:36 AM

Haha! Brilliant.

[satire]
Candyland is CLEARLY superior! I can't believe anyone would vote for chutes and ladders over it unless he is a total newb! No contest!
[/satire]

gar1976 06-07-2004 09:56 AM

Dude, it's all about Hungry-Hungry Hippos.

gar1976 06-07-2004 09:56 AM

And Trouble was pretty bad-ass too.

bltzkriegmcanon 06-07-2004 10:16 AM

Parcheesi, bitches. Parcheesi and Yahtzee. And the classic Monopoly taught us all to be bastards about money :).

Ace_O_Spades 06-07-2004 10:56 AM

I voted chutes and ladders... I used to have a GIGANTIC playing board that folded out, one side was chutes and ladders, the other side was checkers... that was so much fun

you cant have more fun than with chutes and ladders... or that rat bastard chute right before the finish... i ALWAYS got stuck in that chute

Charlatan 06-07-2004 11:02 AM

I prefer SNAKES and ladders... when did it become Chutes?

Fremen 06-07-2004 12:40 PM

I never played Chutes & Ladders. :(
I've seen tv characters playing, though. Looked fun.
Candyland was a riot, if I'm remembering correctly. Haven't played it since First grade.
It got my vote.

Now, Mousetrap was fun as hell, too.

Oh God. Mousetrap was the shit as well, but I can't help shake the memory of when I was like, 7 years old and had chicken pox and vomited all over the game. The board was ruined. Sorry to expose you all to that, but damn, Mousetrap was fun.

Aw hell!! I forgot all about my mousetrap game. I loved that. I cried when my mother threw it out because she had stepped on some pieces, that I had left lying around, with her bare feet. Oh well, it taught me to pick up my toys. Damn...I wanna play mousetrap now.

*edit* I voted Candyland, by the way. I don't know as I've ever played Chutes and Ladders.

emmdubbs 06-07-2004 01:51 PM

everytime i check...it's neck to neck

ironchefkorea 06-07-2004 03:51 PM

Risk. I've never played Candyland or Chutes and Ladders.

BigGov 06-07-2004 04:02 PM

Hrm...This gives me an idea...

H12 06-07-2004 06:09 PM

*feels totally mocked* =P

Gotta go with Candyland, though I was never a big fan of either. However...

exactly!
i wonder if the renaming was due to Christian Right campaigning, or due to copyright?

in this competition, i'm voting for Candyland... even though i don't know what it is... its just that the name 'chutes and ladders' shits me to tears.

best game ever... i've got to go with Hungry Hungry Hippos (closely followed by mousetrap+trivial pursuit).

Destrox 06-08-2004 03:03 AM

Candyland for me.

Charlatan 06-08-2004 05:32 AM

Risk, Monopoly, trivial pursuit don't enter into this...

Snakes (chutes) and Ladders, Candyland, Hungry, Hungry Hippos, Ker-Plunk, Trouble, Sorry, etc. are all for the under 7 crowd... the aforementioned games are played by older kids... like me.

+1 for Candyland.

I've played both as a child, Candyland is cuter :p

Amethyst 06-08-2004 11:35 AM

Candy Land is the best!

I missed the part where I complained about it, heh.

paddyjoe 06-09-2004 01:09 PM

We always played Sorry, and usually ended up nearly coming to blows.

Ahh, good times.

I loved Sorry.

Never had mousetrap, but a friend did, Unfortuneately, most of the pieces were gone, making it a little tough to play!

onetime2 06-10-2004 07:31 AM

Chutes and ladders without a doubt.

Kadath 06-10-2004 08:14 AM

Mousetrap kind of sucked, actually. You spend all that time setting it up and then you set it off and it takes 7 seconds to run through the whole thing, assuming everything worked, and you felt kind of empty afterward. It was like stripping a woman covered in 17 layers of clothing only to find out it's a mannequin or something.

sub zero 06-10-2004 11:00 PM

Dude Chutes and ladders actually had a layer of skill. I'm sure most of perfected our crap throwing skills by trying to get enough to not land on that last chute right by the end.
Candy land you could sorta squeeze your way by.

hawkeye 06-12-2004 11:41 PM

of the two, I've got to vote for S+L, (damn, that snake at the end was a motherfucker)

but mousetrap was probably my favourite. Even now, I'm a big fan of Rube Goldberg type shit.

Eclipse26 06-13-2004 03:06 AM

Candyland all the way out of those 2. Though...Operation was the fave.
