well, .cab files are the main files that hold all the information for the install. If it's a downloaded version, it's either A) corrupted, or B) he pointed the installer to the wrong place.

If it's a legitimate version, it's probably corrupted and he should get a replacement.

It's a legal cd he bought and was all excited to play.
Thanks for the tip. I found only one other reference online and it appeared corrupted disk too.

Try and make a folder on your desktop that's named EXACTLY what the CD is named and then copy all the contents of the CD to that folder. If everything copies OK, try and run the install from there. If it still doesn't copy over, you've most likely got a bad disc.

I'm sure it's been done, but has he looked at the CD? Fingerprints, scratches, dust and any other kinds of nasty particles may be what's causing the issue. Clean the CD with a soft cloth, and maybe use light soap and water to clean it that much more. Maybe that'll help. If not, get a new CD.

Hope this helps!

Does copying files to a folder usually work bgivnin?

I usually just try to make an image of the CD and mount it to a virtual drive if my cd is giving me troubles.

1)Take back the faulty copy of Deus Ex 2
2)Return home with a working copy of Deus Ex 1
3)Happiness
