Tales of Symphonia?
Anyone interested in this one? I've been kinda starved for a good rpg on gamecube and this has been getting some good reviews and should be in stores tomorrow. Real time battles seem to be cool, the whole not being able to save in dungeons kinda sucks though.

Well, considering what's available now, this game just looks great. I'm starved for some old "big head" RPG action. So, it's on the must purchase list.

I picked it up last thursday and put about 25 hours into it so far. I am impressed. Decent predictable plot, kinda lame at times but enough to hold my interest...so far. The world map and main game graphics are top notch, the skits get old quick though.
The battle system is where this game really shines imo. Enemies show up on the world map and are easily avoided if you choose not to fight them, when you run into the enemy the battle mode kicks in an you get to whoop some ass. The combat is real time and you have a basic set of attacks plus a whole slew of tech attacks. You can string these together for combos...with some pretty sweet animations I should note. Another plus is you control whatever member of the part you want and have decent control over some AI patterns for the other members. You can control their targeting, spell use, add tech attacks to the c stick. All of this adds up to a damn fun rpg on the gamecube, Imagine that! So I say check it out if you see it, rent it first maybe...but definitely give it a look.

I'm still on the first disk but this game is hella fun.
Its great to watch too, the visuals are very impressive. The skits do get old and the voice acting is pretty lame though. I tend to just read the bubbles and skip through the voiceovers. The best part is the battle system though. Its much more invoved than a traditional RPG and much FASTER too. In areas your characters are strong in, battles can be done in under 10 seconds. Most battles are done in under a minute, and I've had boss battles go for less than 3 or 4 minutes. I played Skies of Arcadia for a while but the battles came much too frequently and took much too long to sit through. I gave up on it because of this. I would say pick it up. Its visually excellent, has a decent story (if you can get past the dialogue), and can be played with your friends. Without needing GameBoy Advances. |
