MOH - Pacific Assault Demo
Greetings Everyone,
I, for one, was incredibly excited about this game. MOHAA was one of the best FPS I have ever played. It looked that MOHPA was finally going to live up the potential an greatness of MOHAA (unlike the expansion and other attempts at this game). So.....I downloaded the demo and it appears there is something massively wrong the demo and or my computer. As soon as the gameplay starts every shifts into slow motion and becomes uber choppy (you push the fire button and 20-30 seconds the gun fired!). Has anyone heard of problems associated with the demo? I hope this isn't indicative of the game itself! Does anyone know anything? Thanks My rig: P4 2.6HT 1.25G 3200 RAM ATI 9800 Pro 128MB XP SP1 |

Its not your computer. I've heard from some friends that it fucks up on their machines too. I haven't downloaded it because I don't give a fuck about MoH games, so I don't have any first-hand experience with it.

I d/led the demo last night and played it this morning. At first, I turned the resolution up to 1024x768 and put texture and model quality to high. Well, it ran like crap, so I put it back to the default 800x600 and medium quality. Ran just fine then. I have to say that I'm disappointed with the demo. It feels clunky and it's too damn unrealistic for my tastes.

I had the same problem at 1024x768 and high detail/textures. I had to bump it down to medium and it ran well. I'm not as excited about this game as I used to be, with Call of Duty expasion coming out soon as well (and fifty other "must play" games this month)

I run it at 1024*768*32 at 85 HZ. Shaders at 2.0, Decals and Post Processing Effects with no slow down or lag. I have a P4 2.8 ghz / 9800 XT 256 / 1 gig ram / Sound Blast Live and XP SP2. I use the latest Catalyst driver.
I have to say I find this game fairly fun, probably the funnest part of the demo is shooting down Jap planes with the 50 cal, even though it is extremely infuriating. It took me some 10 trys before I finally beat it. Graphics are on par with CoD, and the gun models are nice. I also like the MG firing in this game compared to CoD. In CoD you had the big blinding muzzle flash, in PA the screen blurs, which sounds kinda weak but is really cool when experienced in game. The Ai, both enemy and ally, in PA is decent. Probably my biggest gripe is how enemy's hide. And that you can't seem to hit them, even if they're showing body parts. Like during the airfield shoot out, the enemy ducks behind crates, and even though I can see their heads I can't shoot their heads. I've even tried lying down and shooting with Iron sights to no avail. But that might only be a demo issue. (Hopefully). Also, for this demo to work seems to be a preatty hit or miss deal. People with computers much better than mine have had troubles getting this game to run smooth. People with worse computers can also get it to run smooth. I'm hoping that it is some hardware conflict that will be resolved before the final version. |

I dunno about anyone else, but I absolutely loved this demo. As it said in the intro, it really didn't feel like a game, but more an experience.
Here is a breakdown of what I've done so far... You are awakened to the sound of Japanese infantry attacking your base, followed by a fellow soldier getting you up and ready. As you stand up, you start noticing your surroundings. Cluttered, ruined, battered; a regular WWII base camp. You grab your gun, and start shooting; not really sure who's who yet. Suddently, a Japanese soldier charges at you and repeatedly stabs you with a bayonette. You call for a medic, he clears the surroundings, and bandages you up. You get balanced again, and clear out the remaining enemies. You are then instructed to get to the truck, which will provide you with some cover as you advance. Incoming shells destroy the truck, along with your fellow soldier inside it, but there is no time to mourne. You see an open door and are told to advance to the airfield. Once you get there, you see a waving Japanese flag on the airstrip. All of a sudden, the enemies come charging into your trench. After you finish off the first wave, you hop on into the .50 Calibre machine gun and shoot down the oncoming enemy planes. Just make sure you don't shoot down your own as they are hard to distinguish. Planes are being shot down all over the place. One lands right beside you and kills off a few of your friends. Keep fighting. Keep fighting... that's what I'm doing. I'll get back to you when I get further. The ONLY gripe I have so far is the loading time. It took significantly longer than MOHAA to load, but that's understandable since the game has evolved so much.

It was pretty cool hearing the Japanese shouting in the distance, and the gunfire was pretty audially satisfying.

I didn't have any troubles playing the demo (1280x1024@75 refresh shader 2 turned on post processing and decals turned on). I havent' played too much of either MoH or CoD but this expansion seems to be pretty well done. My only problem was the demo was too short!
