Morrowind Character Creation.
I'm about to start playing Morrowind 3 elder scrolls with a buddy of mine linked up 2 systems and stuff.
We always try to race each other to see who can get the best character, beginining, middle, and endgame performance come into play to see who is the best. I almost never win these contests. Baldurs gate I picked a theif.... which was bad choice.. D&D for xbox I picked barb, which was bad coz he picked sorc. Baldurs gate 2 I picked archer and he picked barb, I was crushed again. I NEED to win this battle this time! If anyone could help me out and preferably give me hints about which race is good choice with what certain skills, and such. Thanks!! Know that your doing my self esteem very good for helping me with this task!!

easiest would be a fighter class who can do destructive magic also
so somethign like a nordic nightmage would be fine(played it years ago so dont quit remember the names) stuff like wizards or archer is the tuffest

Redguard. Hands down. They can be great at combat, stealth, or magic.

Well, it'll just be once we beat the game, we just usually look back at the first 1/3 of the time we played, who'se best. The second 1/3 and who'se best, the last 1/3 and whose best.
I am curious what you guys think of the create your own class thing, if thats a good way to go, and which skills are good to start with in making your own class. or most of the best classes are already pre-made. Ohh, I thinking of going with "The Shadow" or "The Warrior" but most of the signs look pretty good I can't find one that stands out to be amazing.

i played a LOT of that game the last few months and made a lot of char's...
to start, i like to beef up my mana because thats the main thing in the game that doesn't go up very much unless you start w/ it... so i pick the breton and then for a sign i pick the one that boosts your mana .5 % (i think the apprentice) that starts me w/ a healthy mana pool, and i can beef up my combat skills later. this also is a neat combo because the bretons resistance to magic cancels out the weakness to it you get from the sign. when it comes to selecting skills i choose... 1)things that don't go up very fast or are hard to use. sneak is a great example of this...it's hard to slowly creep thru the game hoping the comp checks to see if creatures notice you or not. 2) things that are hard to find training for... like marksman. theres nothing more painful than looking through the huge island for a guy to beef up a skill you need for the next part of the game. in terms of magic i reccomend specializing in... 1)alteration for its usefulness in accessing hard to reach places w/ levitate. you can also get a spell maker to make you a 100 point open spell for all those tuff chests and doors once you have a hi ability w/ this. 2) illusion... invisibility is very helpful when you've just taken a heap of damage and need to cast a healing spell or drink a potion. also a spellmaker can make you a reasonble costing charm spell, which lets you get any info or items you might need to complete quests. finally paralyze is great in combat. 3) mysticism has my favorite combat spell... absorb health, w/ mark and recall being useful to have while treasure hunting and telekenisis taking away the need for probes to get rid of traps on doors and chests. 4) conjuration is great for putting things in between you and hostile projectiles and spells and the bound weapon spells are very handy because they boost the applicable weapon skill by 10... i like to cast bound longsword then switch to my enchanted longsword for the extra elemental damage it provides. 5) enchant... this is probly the least important magic of important magics to me because it's so difficult to make enchanted weapons, but it does boost the charges and effectiveness of the magic items you find so a little investment or training in it is worth it. ** as a sidenote illusion, mysticism, and enchant seem to be the most difficult to find training for so you might want to beef those to start.** in terms of combat i start w/ marksmanship because it can drop a lot of health from someone b4 they even know you're there... after that you can pick any weapon you'd like but make sure you stick to it so you're not spreading your money and skill points around too much finally i reccomend staying away from alchemy (unless you want to be all up in the potion maker interface all day), destruction(because theres combat spells in other more useful disciplines), and mercantile/speechcraft because a charm spell is way more effective than the stupid persuasion interface. hope this makes sense and good luck w/ your character. |

I played that game to break my EQ addiction. Nice trading one addiction for another. So if you just look back and say decide together who was best then you have a 50% vote in saying you're better then him. Just don't give in. Who cares who's the "best" I think it really matters who has the most fun.

{edit} Hm, looks like I may have misunderstood... I thought you guys were dueling... In any case, Atronach is a great sign because of the 50% chance to absorb magic... You'll have a tough time playing a spellcaster under that sign (since you can't regen mana), but if you focus on melee or ranged combat with a few spells to supplement, mana potions will be good enough to keep you going... {/edit} Last edited by Captain Pants; 10-10-2004 at 08:11 AM.. |

in terms of creation at the beginning, it's always best to completely custom make your character. there are invariably going to be skill points wasted on things you don't use if you stick w/ the computer templates.

Apparantly the Lady and the Atronach are two very good signs to pick. Atronach gives you a huge pool of mana (although it doesnt recharge by sleeping) and the Lady gives you a big personality and endurance boost.
However, if you're playing Morrowind just to see who has the best stats, you're not playing it right. Awesome game. |

Always pick the Atronach as your sign. It has spell absorption, big mana boost, and the not-regen while resting thing is really moot. Just use potions, there's no need to rest really.
Redguard is a very good race. Adrenaline Rush rules. If you come up against a monster you keep getting killed at, Adrenaline Rush will trivialize the encounter. It's probably one of the best racial abilities in the game. Orcs Berserk is pretty good too. Long Blade is probably your best bet for a good weapon choice. Good damage, good speed, and the option of 1 or 2 handed weapons is wide. There are TONS of Long Blades in the game. Get Block if you plan on using 1 handers, but it's not really necessary. You don't need any magic skills. You can find enough potions/scrolls throughout the game that you won't miss magic at all. Having Destruction can help if you come up against a character who's wearing some beefy armor or blocks a lot. I never use it though. Marksman is a great skill also. Sort of hard to raise, but well worth it, especially if you are playing a Thief class with Sneak. When Sneaked you have a very good chance of critical hitting an opponent if she/he is not aware of you. For a Thief/Archer I would pick Wood Elf. For any sort of melee class I would pick Redguard. For a Magic user I would pick Dark Elf. High Elves are basically worthless, their minus to magic resistances is a terrible racial trait. Imperials are a decent race also. I preferr the Thief. It's a lot easier to progress through the game, and the Thief quests are the funnest out there. Especially the Morag Tong quests, those are great. Have fun with this game, it's an awesome experience. |

This is what you do: Get Grandmaster alchemy equipment and train alchemy to 100 with a 100 int. Items can boost you to about 140 int. With that skill and int, you can make some kick ass fortify INT potions. Make 10 drink them. Make 10 more, drink them. Each time you drink those potions, the next ones you create have a higher sucess rate, give stronger stat boosts, and have longer durations. Your mana also increases really fast. After about 10 minutes, I could make a potion that fortifies INT by about 1 million points for about 5 million seconds. Take that and you have mana in excess of 5 million. While you have that high INT, make fort STR, fort Willopwer, and all other attributes that are about the same. You're HP don't increase, but with over 1,000,000 strength, you can kill anyone with one punch (every weapon breaks immediately). You can also unleash hell with your spells. Make an absorb health spell that takes 100 points health for 20 seconds over a 100 foot radius. With an int over 1million, you have the needed mana to cast it. Take the fortify willpower potion and you will never fail. I cast a spell like that and everyone within the blast died. Nobody can touch you. Also you're enchantments will never fail either if you have insane INT. |

With good equipment, high skill and high INT it should take about 100 or so of each ingredient to make the int potions. You can buy 10 of each at a time and if the seller has quantities of 5 or 10 they instantly replenish. Yes, it takes some time but godlike power takes time.

The potion way is the traditonal cheese way to power, but outside of that alchemy is deadweight. Until that point, alchemy won't be as useful. I recommend focus on blunt weapon, with secondary in longsword. For magic conj, myst, alteration, and healing. Destruction seems impressive, but you can do as much damage in melee, without having to constantly rejuv mana. Also, pick either heavy or light armour and stick to it, dont switch and don't take medium or unarmoured. Block is a necessity, not just for the blocking but because of the extra slot for magic. As for sign, I'm partial to lady. Atronach seems cool, but I found always needing mana potions sucked (especially early). Also, the absorb isn't that necessary. However you play, it's a great game and one of my all-time favorites, make sure and enjoy.

I spent way to much time on this game, Havn't played in a while though.
I managed to find a couple ways to goob out a low lvl melee type. I won't bore anyone with a long post packed full of explicit detail as to how. lets see what kind of response this post gets first. ...Is Morrowind still thriving? |

Most assuredly it is in my house... I bought the GOTY Edition, loaded all three Elder Scrolls - Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon.
Created my own custom character (based on my old D&D knowledge) and set out on what has been an amazing quest. I'm totally hooked on this game and every free moment I have I play. I'm also VERY excited about the "Oblivion" version coming out in 2006.

Morrowind for the XBox is the best 1-player console game I have played. I loved my customized fighter focused on big swords and strength, Redgaurd, fighter sign. It was easy to beat everything up, throughout the game. Nothing was a challenge to kill. On the other hand, it is hard to have a bad character. It is easy to fix one later. Thieves seem to suck at killing things and take a lot longer to beat the game with. It's easy to steal with any character and the traps are a joke. Certain magic schools are easy to do without and so not very useful. The main thing is to pick something fun, because you can make just about any class work well.

MichaelFarker: Yeah, I know that's what got me playing the PC version was watching my two boys play the XBox version.
I'm a diehard PC gamer. With any luck "Oblivion" will be better in those areas of the game that you pointed out are "easy". From what I can gather Oblivion will be better in all areas of the game... hence it's a "new" game and not an expansion pack like Tribunal and Bloodmoon. Both are definietly worth playing, but it would have been nice to see some smarter AI since your character is already Billy Bad Ass from completing the Morrowind adventures. Currently Level 47 Nordic Warrior Archmagister House Telvani Master of the Fighters Guild & Master of the Morag Tong

I don't think this game actually ends. You could go on forever in this game, I think. I have finished the main quest and many of the side quests and the Tribunal and Bloodmoon quests and there is still so much to do it's unreal.
