Rome: Total War
Is anyone else playing this game? I find the game really good, I just wish the camera controls were a little better.
Hmm.. check out this video of Elephants vs Puppies. http://www.chrisalbon.com/media/elep...vs-puppies.wmv

I'm playing it and love it. All the Total War games have been great. Rome almost feels like the sequel to Lords of the Realm 2 that I was waiting for. Because the one that was relased sure licked balls.
So yeah, I think it is great, my girlfriend does not. Sigh. |

Awesome game, but they need a patch to fix the MP (from what I've heard), and the squalor issues.

My biggest complaint with the 2 games of the Total War series that I've played is that the grand campaigns lack direction beyond 'go forth and kill everything that moves on the map.' Is this any different in R:TW? |

Hi,
I'm loving it so far. I love the huge cinematic battles and I enjoy just watching the units interact on the battlefield. I found the camera clunky at first, but now I have worked out how it works for the most part (with the exception of the fact that the camera is "tied" to a unit and can only move so far from that unit, which means you can't really observe far-off units unless at least one of your units is near to them). I am really impressed with how it plays, and I love the large battles . Thanks, Manga |

Wow, I didn't realise this had come out already - All the other TWs were great, and I never disliked the realism that the tied-to unit camera provides, though it could always have had a greater degree of up-down rotation. Is everyone who wants to play it going to have to buy a new PC, or is it reasonably tidy? Also, does anyone know if it will come out on the Mac? (I'll go goole it and find out...)

I find that the patch fixed plenty. Before, you couldn't access the MP portion of the game thru the game itself, but had to use Gamespy. Now it works fine. A bunch of other MP fixes have been included as well, the host isn't the only one that can choose which faction you play, the point limit is changeable, etc.
It also runs good, even on lower spec machines. Reason being is because it isn't actually a full 3d game. It's a hybrid 2d/3d game. When the camera gets a certain distance away from units, they go from being 3d models to 2d sprites. It's hardly noticable (in fact I didn't notice until someone posted about it on another forum, and even still it's hard to tell), and the game is still a beauty to look at.

It's a fantastic game and I just removed Medieval:TW from my comp for the first time since the day it came out because I probably won't go back after playing Rome:TW
Between R:TW, Evil Genius, Sims2, BF:V 1.2 patch, Dawn of War, WoW open beta and the fileplanet subscriber giveaway for Matrix Online beta keys....I have to say, it's not a bad time to be unemployed.

I just placed my order, I'm excited and concerned at the same time. Excited because it's a kickass game, concerned because I think my life will suffer from it, college, work, women, food, sleep, etc.

I like it, very huge battles. I still like Rise of Nations or Civilization III the best, though.
