do you invert your Y axis?
Ok, even though there are 2 other threads about this, they lack a poll. So here we can get a clearer answer to the age old question: Are you an inverter?
Please note this thread leaves out flight sims, as I am sure most people use an inverted Y axis for these games. I am looking for 1st and 3rd person games here. |

Looks like so far, things lie in favour of "the default", i.e. NOT inverted. I always knew I was anti-mainstream. In the words of Steve Martin, "that'll show 'em!"
I wonder if inverters are pro-Bush?

I invert my consoles, but most of my PC is mouse targeting, the exception is playing Descent and I invert my flight controls.

Up is definitely up.
It just doesn't seem right pushing up, but the screen going down. I just can't play like that, on PC or console

Inversion is the only way to go... however this only works for me with flying games and first person view points. All other times it has to be regular. Now i'm just confusing myself, but all i say is true. I must be some fucked up computer player.

I can go either way on consoles after a few minutes to adjust...I think it's because of the stick making it similar to a flying game with a joystick. But I usually use standard and always standard with a mouse, so I'll go with up is up.

When I first read saw this on the Index page, I thought it was in the Knowledge forum and I was about to complain about all the graphs I had to make with inverted numbering on the y-axis (for my research on sediment cores).
I voted Up is Up! (because it IS), but I can play inverted too as long as I have a little time to reorient myself.

Inverted for consoles. There is no other way to play for me. I get really disoriented when up is up...as weird as it sounds. I used to play a lot of flight games where up was down and down was up and it kinda stuck with me.
PC's on the other hand keep their axis default. Because I do the Y moving with my whole arm and not just with a thumb so it's completely natural for up to be up and down to be down...if that makes any sense.

I always invert the Y-axis. I might have gotten used to it by playing lots and lots of flight simulators back in the day.
I think however, that anyone "fresh" in the FPS gaming world will just choose to not invert the Y-axis. It's all a matter of habit IMO. |
