Buckwheat in beer?

Found out I'm allergic to buckwheat. Anyone know which beers or how common it is for their to be any buckwheat in beer? I know some are specifically made with it, but I was wondering about the rest. If they use a "whole-grain" approach then it probably has buckwheat.

buckwheat beer - Google Search

The "whole-grain" approach you mention refers fo using only grains, not extracts to make the wort. These would be the same grains used to make extracts, such as malted barley and wheat.

Not very likely.

Most beers stick to using barley or wheat. Buckwheat is just too expensive to use as an adjunct on a regular basis in beermaking. So long as you stay away from gluten-free beer and Morimoto's Soba Ale from Rogue, you should be all right.

Remember that buckwheat isn't a cereal grain; it's the seed of a flowering plant, rather than the seed of grasses. Beers that use buckwheat would do so to emphasize the variation on using a typical cereal grain by using something such as buckwheat.

Most beers are made from hops (a flower), barley (a grain), and wheat (a grain), and sometimes corn (maize) and rice (more grains).

I have a new rule, myself: When in doubt, down a stout.

This remark has my seal of approval.

Why, thank you.

In an attempt to muster yet another seal of approval, I would like to take this moment to inform the thread that there's a microbrewery that makes beers of several varieties (including stout) quite literally 1/4 mile from where I live.

I thought grasses were flowering plants.

Good point. Buckwheat is more like a twiggy, shrubby flowering plant.
