Quick question - centre of gravity/mass

Hi there,

How do I calculate the centre of gravity/mass of a 2m long bar that varies from 10kg/m at the left hand end to 5kg/m at the right hand end?

Thanks

Homework time again? Looks like the school year has started.

Yeah - seems like Tilted Knowledge has suddenly become Tilted Help Me With My Homework.

Edit: Okay - as per Halx, "The Tilted Knowledge forum is basically a place for you to ask for secular knowledge such as mathematics and grammar."

Therefore, I will withdraw my comment, and change it to:
"Read the damn textbook."

D'OH!

OK, I'll be polite as well then.

If you have lost your textbook, you can do it through geometry, changing "mass" to "area". Basically, you end up with a triangle; figure out where the line is that gives you equal area on each side.

Does it change uniformly along its length?

Yeah, sorry should've said.

Thanks for the tips guys, problem is, this is a set of questions I have been given to prepare me for my University course, and I'm not at University yet so I don't have any of the textbooks.

Well, if you Google using "center" instead of "centre", this NASA page is pretty cool. Again, convert "mass" to "area".
