Secondary Education Certification: Illinois

Hey, I am trying to get a degree and get certified to teach electronics, small engines, and cad at the high school level. I know there are programs at ISU, SIUC, and Eastern, but due to my current circumstances I can't really travel to school. I'm in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, and I need to get this done by spring of 05. HELP!

Your state Department of Education should be able to help you find the appropriate programs as well as courses. You can search through their website at http://www.isbe.state.il.us/ and see what's available there. There are also phone numbers of people to contact who can answer all of your questions.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are now a ton of distance learning opportunities available. See if there are some courses you can do over the Internet.

Unfortunately, they are not as helpful as you might think.

The good thing about distance learning is that you don't have to keep to your own state. There are distant learning opportunities at many of the colleges and universities now all over the country. I've been looking into one in Massachusetts for a second Master's degree. They're out there, you just have to be willing to do the research to find the one that's right for you.

Good luck.
