? about Grout

I have two questions about grout.

1. How long should I let it dry before taking a shower in the shower stall that I just grouted?

2. The bag of grout said nothing about a sealant? Do I need one?

Thank you.

1. MINIMUM 24 hours. i'm paranoid and let it go 4 or 5 days.

2. Yes. Absolutely. Before you do anything in that shower, seal the grout.

like he said... overnight. Then you do your final elbow grease buff out with a terry towel. This will buff off the last bit of haze. Then you need to seal the grout with the best sealer you can find. Maybe even do it twice - follow directions. The important thing is to re-seal it periodically, maybe once per year?

When we rebuilt our shower wall, we duct taped garbage bags over the new tiles for a week (only one shower in the house.) Then we sealed it. I'm glad we did that.

I'm sure your coworkers/friends are glad as well.

I did the same thing when I had to repair a section in my mother's old house.

An often missed step, because nobody tells you to do so is to strike the grout. Compaction, strength, and a smooth visual line are all pluses. Do this after the grout has set, prior to sponging off excess from the tile faces.
