Vinyl Repair- boat seats

How do you repair vinyl seats?

They are in a '98 Campion 525 Allante, a lake designed recreational ski boat. The seats/cushions have had a lot of sun and use over the last five summers or so. It's a rental boat and has been abused accordingly.

The vinyl is splitting in a couple places and has seperated from some seams so that the foam is visible in a couple other areas.

Short of taking it to a shop that does this sort of work, what are my options? I don't know where to start, although I'm usually a 'fix it myself' type of guy.

I'll be honest, I haven't tried really hard to google this. I'm in a dialup wasteland that tops off at 26.4 Kbps and I will be until September. Thanks.

I feel your pain-31.2 is as good as it gets here.

The only observation I have is that you'd be trying to patch material which has already been damaged by UV exposure, kinda like taping up a leaky balloon made of tissue paper.

If $ is tight-can you buy seat covers like those sold for cars and trucks? If money isn't a problem, then I'd just take them to an upholstery shop.

Remember those old infomercials, where they put the patch on anything vinyl, peel it off and it looks perfect. I dont remember what it was called, but here is a link to a site for something that looks like it will work.

If it's split badly enough to expose the foam, those repair kits won't work. Your best bet would be to look in parts catalogs for factory or reproduction seat covers. Barring that you could have an upholstery shop make new custom covers (expensive) or find some aftermarket ones that slip on. I'm guessing that ones made for cars w/ low-back bucket seats might work.
