Question about putting a hole in glass...
For a project that I am doing I would like to put a hole in a wine bottle. The thing is I am not sure how to go about doing it. I know you can buy cobalt tipped drill blades that should be able to drill through glass if you have a powerfull enough drill but I was also thinking about maybe putting the torch to it as well. The hole will have to be about the size of a round highlighter (4cm across?). Any suggestions would help.
Thank you! |
Hi,
Stick with a drill. Using a torch to make the hole is not as straight forward as you may think. Check these: http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~kitamiki/holeeng.html (uses a dremel-type appliance and diamond-surfaced bits ) http://www.artglass1.com/drilling-holes-glass.htm (They have a PDF that explains the procedure. This place also sells the core bits that I think you may need) |
To make your bong...er...PROJECT, buy a bit for drilling ceramic/glass. Run water over the bottle as you drill it to keep it cool.

that's exactly what I was thinking... I tried something similar once with very limited success. Good luck. |
