Safety Precautions for the babes

I'm sure everyone has things that they do to ensure the safety of their pets. I don't want this thread to be about horrible things that have happened to an animal because then I couldn't read it. Having said all that, whenever I bring home a shopping bag with handles on it I always cut through the handles or cut them off so that my cats won't get stuck when they are playing hide n' seek in what they perceive is a new toy just for them.

So, share your safety tidbits here.....

This is a timely topic for me as I am in need of advice, rather than having safety advice to offer.

I haven't had a young dog in over a decade and my rescue puppy is in the chewing stage. She has managed to shred some of the hard plastic off the legs of my office chair and I am concerned that she might swallow a scrap of that. I've surveyed the house and have found electrical cords that she can easily get to. I need to devise some means of keeping the potentially harmful things out of her reach. Any wisdom offered will be greatly appreciated.

I'm really not worried about the things that attract her that won't harm her. My garden shoes have been showing up in odd places, and she had a great time with the tp roll. I need to buy a variety of chew toys for her because she gets bored with the few that I currently have. I just want to keep her safe from anything that could harm her.

I would recommend using some sort of spray that tastes really bad such as bitter apple on the cords and such. You can also use tabasco sauce. You might go through many types of taste tests with her before you find something she truely hates. The pet store has many different kinds.

I baby-proofed the house just like you had an infant including bundling up cords with zip ties and blocking unused outlets.

Cats are curious lil creatures and will get into things!

Halloween is coming.

While it's fun for kids and adults that like to be a kid, it's not a pet friendly holiday.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats so please keep it out of reach.

Then there are people that like to pull cruel pranks on Halloween for reasons that are beyond me, so keep your pets indoors Halloween night.

Dogs shouldn't be allowed to run loose as alot of them get hit by cars, and people have this thing with shoving cats in storm drains as well.
