Politics and Pets: Dog vs. Cat again

I'm curious about this one. I wonder if political inclinations have some relationship to animal preference.

I predict that "cat folks" are mostly politically "liberal" and that "dog folks" are closer to 50% of each ... let's see ...

I'm liberal, and I'm 1000% dog person through and through. People confuse cat's indivuduality for intelect. It's the opposite of dogs, as they are intelligent and loyal.

In my experience.

I'm totally a cat person and definitely not a liberal. I think I would be considered a conservative-leaning/moderate Libertarian but, for the purpose of the poll, I voted as "politically conservative".

Owning a dog is like having a little kid that never grows up. It might be kind of cute for a while, but eventually it can become very annoying.

I can't do this liberal or conservative thing anymore. It's not a useful label to me. If it helps explain me, however, I will say this: I'm definitely a cat person who is open minded and willing to consider change. I am also anti-capital, anti-war and all for love and peace.

I love all animals, and currently have cats (it's mean to have dogs in an apartment with our schedules!).

I guess you'd consider me a Libertarian, of sorts... fiscally slightly conservative and socially very liberal. So I don't fit. And I don't want to fit. So there!

I love my dog and my cat (though if pressed I would say my cat edges out my dog... just don't tell the dog).

I would consider myself a centrist (despite what others might think).

Dog person - liberal

(although I actually live with two cats now - they belong to my daughters...which is also indicative of my tolerance for many (not all!) conservative viewpoints as I happen to be dating a republican )

Well now this all depends on the general definitions of liberal and conservative... without seeing what is considered of both I can not properly vote on the above poll...

Wow. So far it looks like roughly an even spread. No gross trends are apparent.
I'd say it seems that dog/cat favoritism may be independent of politics ... what a wonderful thing!

.... so there's hope after all ...

Dog person. Liberal.

My wife is more of a cat person and is conservative (don't worry she's coming around though)

I'm a little confused about this statement:

I would think it's the opposite. My dog is trained. He does what he's supposed to.. much like a child does as they get older. A cat.. does whatever it wants. So, I'll agree with willravel, individuality != intellect.

That interpretation can only come from a cat person. I know because I used to be one.

I'm mostly dog-person now (about 80%).

And, on the contrary, I think it's cat's that are like kids that never grow up... only because they tend to be more introspective and narcissistic as children tend to be.

My dog is more proactive and looks out for my personal safety and for the security of the household. If there's a sign of danger he places himself between me and harm's way. In the face of danger most cats I know will be the first to disappear ... owner be damned.
