Cover letters sent by email or by website

Hey all,
Cover letters for job applications should be signed, right?
What about cover letters sent by email or by the employer's website?
Do they have to be signed? If yes, how do I sign it?
Should I sign and send it as a photo attahment since theo nly way I can think of is signing it and scanning it and them attaching it as a photo or scanned document. But sometimes, they cannot be opened and the employer might have a hard time opening it and might disregard it altogether.
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

There is no need to scan your signature.

Nah, that would be a little overkill. Just type your name at the bottom. Honestly, every employer I've ever sent a cover letter to didn't seem to be the type to really care that much about the formatting- they want to know YOU, and that's what's supposed to come through in your cover letter- what you can and will be doing for them if you get hired.

Yea, can't see the need to sign it. If we, as a potential employer, are interested in you, a signature is a far cry from what we're looking for. Especially in this day and age, where most correspondence is via email.

However, for those who do apply for jobs, can I just say there's nothing more offputting than skipping the 'Dear Mr ETC'. You've got to do your research and address your application to the correct person. Just diving head first into your spiel is one step back in your application.
