Question on TSA Regulations

I am flying to Philadelphia in January. The only jacket I have is one with a couple of patches that are fixed to the jacket with safety pins.

I've looked around at some TSA prohibited items list and didn't see anything about safety pins but wonder if it could be under "sabers" or any other name.

I would imagine they are but does anyone know for sure if they are a prohibited item on aircrafts or an allowed item?

I'm only going by the same TSA list you are, but seeing as you can now have pointy metal scissors with blades up to 4" long in your carry on, I think you're ok.

Optic, I assume these patches are important to you and for that reason I would recommend that you not take the chance of losing them. Are your patches independent of the safety pins in case the "pointy things" are taken?

Yea, Elphaba they're just attached with the pins. I've had them on for years and it's the only jacket I own. I wouldn't want to take the risk of losing them but I don't really want to go buy another jacket just for one plane trip to Philly and another one that I'll rarely use. Not really any use here in Florida except for maybe a week or two out of the winter.

Thanks guys.

It depends on the particular TSA agent you get. I've been told many times to leave behind things that were definitely allowed, (I checked the TSA website just before travelling) and other times gotten through with them. Basically, if you have anything that might concieveably cause injury, you take a chance of having it confiscated.

You might print out the list of items and take that list with you. Also, the only thing they might take are the pins - you'd still get to keep the jacket.
