28 mi backpacking trip

Every year I go backpacking for 28 miles with a few friends for a few days. Mostly downhill on the way in to the destination, and uphill on the way back. I'll be lugging around a 30 lb backpack full of food, pots and pans, ect. I was just wondering if there are any sugestions on the trip itself. I have repacked my bag and its as light as it can get. I have a few days before the trip and I've been able to sucessfully complete the trip since I was 14. Anything that could possibly benefit me in getting ready/excecuting the hike?

thx,
Carl0z

If you do this every year I don't see why it should be a problem this year.

I'm interested, I've done similar trips, but carried about twice as much weight. I did what I could to alleviate as much weight as possible, but I found I end up "helping" others with some of their things, and before I know it I'm carrying a few pounds under half my weight (I know, stupid stupid stupid).

I'm wondering, how many people do you go with? How many days is the trip? What food do you pack (details, from snacks/trail mix, to meals)? What type of packs do you have, sleeping bags, cooking kits, and what not? What all clothes do you pack, I think this is my downful, in attempting to "be prepared" I feel I pack way way too much clothes wise, and end up taking a bunch of clothing I end up not wearing, but I also don't want to get stuck in a situation where I don't have proper clothing and what not.

Thanks for any info.

I'd say in preparation, do some good long hikes on your free days, take a lunch with you, and just go and go and go. Do at least the mileage you'd plan to cover in a single day on your backpacking trip. Enjoy, and take some pictures.

I've never tried it, but I've heard that anti-perspirant on your feet can help prevent blisters.

Walk, run, bike, waterver you can do to get in shape if you are not already... I have found myself on long hikes where I just about shut down from exaustion.

I was doing field work in Myanmar and we were covering a lot of ground in the jungle which was wet and steep. All of my gear did nothing and I felt pretty stupid as my Burmese coleagues didn't even break a sweat!

I am also curious as to where you are going. It is kind of hard to do anything now, but hopefully you exercised for at least a few weeks before this trip. Makes it a little easier on your body. I have done a couple of 20-30 mile trips up in Colorado. Man, that altitude takes a toll on you. I was so tired a couple of night I didn't even want to eat.
