Help with website promotion? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

In no way shape or form is this a plug. I won't even mention the site name or url. I want to get my clientel on my own.

I am looking for some ideas on free or payed, but I perfer free site promotion.

The site is a forum much like this one. Also I have another site where we promote my companies products.

If anybody has any ideas please let me know.

sloedough: I'd suggest word of mouth. getting noted somewhere that people go is always useful (duh), and I see i don't have to remind you that here's not the place.

I recommend stickers. Just plaster them all over your city. Banner adverisements and pop-up boxes don't work.

Thank You for tha advice. I like the sticker Idea! Good One. Word of mouth is what I am going to do tonight at the bar. And one thing I have to look foward to is the Sturgis Rally, it is im my area this August, and we get about 200,000 - 400,000 turistis on bikes for a week. Lots of exposure.

If it caters to a certain group, like techies or musicians or something like that, do a search on AIM for buddies, and put in the topics that the site pertains to. Don't start spamming them, IM them, say hi, and say you found their name using a keyword search. If they seem to be interested in the subject, mention that you have a site and ask if you could have their opinion on it. maybe create a guest account for them to log in as just to look around. If they have any suggestions, the site gets better. I fthey like it, they'll tell their friends.

Or, if you want to kill two birds with one stone, advertise on TFP, at least for the company one. For the personal one, having it in your profile will get more hits than you'd expect.

BTW, It's good that you avoided plugging the site, the fact that you explicitly avoided doing that is what made me actually think about your question.

blam. hit that nail right on the head. viral marketing is a big hit... grab as many friends as you can, head down to kinko's and drop a few bucks for a few hundred sheets, make some cardboard stencils that you can use with spraypaint, and get out there... get your name everywhere... make it as obvious as possible without overstepping the bounds of the laws (blatantly).
