Differences between Soy & Whey Protein

Okay,

I've really been trying to get over this weight hump. I've dropped quite a bit of weight in the last year or so, but I've kind of been hovering. I'm trying my best to start eating better to help this. Well, recently I've started drinking a protein shake after my workout and surprisingly It's pretty filling. One glass of the shake usually fills me up to the point that I don't feel hungry for about 2 or 3 hours when I eat a small meal at work. It helps me keep my overall calorie intake down since I used to eat a pretty big meal after my workout and before going to work. (I work 2nd shift)

Anyway, I was given a jar of Soy protein by someone at work (they didn't like the flavor) but I'm running out and was wondering when I buy some more should I get Soy protein or Whey protein? What's the difference? I've read on another thread that glutamine is also something to look for too.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

unfortunatly, i can only be kinda vague about this, but i think there are basically two differences... one is the source. soy is plant based protein, if i'm not mistaken. whey is milk based. the other difference is that if you want to build muscle, whey is better. soy either doesn't have as much of some essential protein, or has more of some other thing, which makes it not quite as good. crystal clear?

Whey is the best protein for your body. It is the same protein found in egg whites (which are the best protein for your body as well). Not only is whey a very high grade protein but it is absorbed the fastest and most efficiently into your body. There is nothing wrong with finishing off that soy, but when its gone, get whey.

Glutamine is great. It helps with muscle recovery (reducing the "soreness" time) and aids in preventing muscle loss (coupled with the protein). You can even find some brands of whey protein that will have glutamine added to it, which can save you a little cash. If you are concerned about lack of energy while dieting or scared to lose your strength and muscle, you can even look into doing a cycle of creatine which isn't expensive and stacks nicely with whey and glutamine.

Hope that helps.

Yup, that all pretty much answers my questions.

Thanks.

soy is the worst protein source you can ingest. for men, it has lead to lower testosterone levels among other things. whey and casein should be your first choice in protein powders.

Are there any references for this? Where is this information from?
