VERY important RE: Gay Marrage.

http://www.afa.net/petitions/marriagepoll.asp

--- forwarded message ---

The American Family Association has decided to try and "prove a point" by having a poll on their website for folks to take about their opinion on gay marriage. They intend to present the results of this poll to the United States Congress in an attempt to instate a federal law against Gay Marriage.

It's obvious that they think that this poll will come out in their favor, and that the vast majority of people will vote to keep marriage for traditional couples only.

I ask you all to please visit
http://www.afa.net/petitions/marriagepoll.asp
and let your opinion be heard. It takes about 45 seconds, and it is SUCH an important topic. Whether you are gay or straight, conservative or liberal, your opinion matters, and you NEED to vote here.

The only folks who were even made aware of it's existence were the people on the AFA's mailing list and the people who happened to wander across their website. They have absolutely every intention of presenting this poll in the form of a petition to congress against gay marriage. I wonder if they will still present it when the YAYs outweigh the NAYs?

PLEASE let your voice be heard.

I voted in favor of the Civil Union. Not surprisingly, those opposed to gay marriage/civil union blew those in favor out of the water. The results of the poll will be skewed just by the mindsets, and the very nature of the types of people that will gravitate toward that site.

It's a noble thing that you are endeavoring here, Banginblaz. But I fear that it's going to take a whole hell of a lot more than just the votes that we can garner here.

I would, however, be interested to see if The American Family Association will still present the results of this poll to the United States Congress if the results do not go their way.

Well, I voted in favor of marriage, but like Bill said, the results will be skewed because of the type of people who gravitate toward the site or who were notified of the poll.

I passed this around to some friends, and sent it in to moron.org. If Morons posts it, their results will probably be very much at odds with their expectations.

Let's take the fun out of fundamentalism, shall we?

Please, like anybody would give this crappy poll any credence. It's deeply unscientific. All it says is what the people who visited their site think. What do they think this is supposed to prove? Morons.

Why do people want to ban same-sex marriages? Seems like a ridiculous waste of time. Let people live their own lives, I say!

Well, as of yesterday, the Pro Marriage line was at about 37%. Today, it's over 46% and anti marriage has dropped below 50%.

Here's the <a href="http://www.afa.net/petitions/SummarizePoll.asp">Summary of results</a>.

Keep up the pressure! Tell your friends.

Anything that implies that public opinion goes one way or the other is "valid" proof in Congress, lurkette. Like any form of "proof", one side will hold it up as testament, the other will shoot it down as falsehood.

I'm putting my vote in the hat, just so that they don't have this "proof" to wave around.

Because the politicians are morons, and this may just be the "evidence" they need to know that the majority of people share their moronic view.

edit: as of now, "I favor legalization of homosexual marriage" leads 48% to "I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and 'civil unions'" 43%. Keep up the good work people.

Okay, as of 1:18pm PST there have been nearly 350,000 votes cast in this poll. Bets on how long until the AFA realizes they aren't going to win their own poll and throws out the results due to "ballot stuffing?"

At last check the tally was 66.28% in favor of either gay marriage, or a civil union, with 33.73% opposed. I have to say that I am surprised by that. Behold, the power of the internet, indeed.

I still, however, would be very interested to see if The American Family Association will still present the results of this poll to the United States Congress as the results are not going their way.

On a final note; I received this in my inbox this morning, and thought that I would share it with you all...

Quote:

Dear Robert,
I want to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas, and to offer my sincerest thanks for signing the American Family Association's poll on marriage.

This issue in America today is so near and dear to my heart. As a former homosexual, I believed I was born "gay." After 11 years in the "gay" lifestyle my life changed in 1992 when a Christian woman lovingly confronted me and my homosexuality with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I couldn't help but see the truth in God's Word that my homosexuality was sin before a holy God.

Lives world wide are being changed daily by the power of Jesus Christ. I am one of thousands of men and women who have walked away from homosexuality, and who have become the men and women that God has created us to be.

The American Family Association has a real heart to reach America with the truth about homosexuality, take an uncompromising stand on God's Word and defend the sanctity and holiness of heterosexual marriage. More importantly, we do so because AFA has a real love for the homosexual.

We are all sinners and all need a Savior -- and His name is Jesus Christ. What better time of year than this Christmas season to give your life to Jesus Christ.

If you or someone you know is struggling with homosexuality, I encourage you to visit the AFA website where you can hear my testimony and find a variety of resources to help the homosexual.

May God bless you this Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of that precious baby in a manger who came for one reason -- to die on that cross for sinners like you and me.

With love this Christmas,

Stephen Bennett
Homosexual Issues Editor
American Family Association

59.72% in Favor of full marriage deal.
8.25% in Favor of Civil Union with full benefits (marriage without calling it "marriage")
32.03% against both homosexual marriages and Civil Unions.

This is hilarious, and I can't wait to hear the news about them suddenly deciding not to show it to congress.

I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and "civil unions" 32.00%

I favor legalization of homosexual marriage 59.75%
(374806 votes)
I favor a "civil union" with the full benefits of marriage except for the name 8.25%
(51754 votes)

Shows them what people really think. Unfortunately, considering the letter that is emailed out upon signing, they seem to be deluded beyond help.

My feelings exactly. What 2-200 consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home is not my business. For taxation to be fair, it needs to happen. Personally, taxes should not be effected by marriage. Then no problem.
