Sunburn remedies

Ok, i got burnt a little, yesterday and was wondering about any common remdies or cures for sunburn?

My sister came back yesterday, and consequently, boutght all her beauty products :D Anyway, she had this body butter stuff, with cocoa butter and other crap in it and it's done a pretty good job so far. BUt anything else?

next time i have to wear more sunscreen or cover up better :(

Better yet - plant some aloe - whenever you need one, just go out and cut a shoot off the plant, and rub it gently on the affected area.

I know that's not a good short-term remedy - but it never hurts to plan ahead. They grow like weeds, and actually make good accent plants in your landscape. If it gets cold in the winter where you live, just grow them in containers and bring them inside when it gets close to the chance of a frost.

And - as you yourself said - the best option is to use sunscreen and avoid the problem.

I try to always have an Aloe Vera plant around the house. Best remedy I've had yet. I have used burn cream that I found with benzocain and aloe in it, good stuff. I had a sunburn once that was so bad I peeled 3 times and was in pain for over a week. Couldn't even go swimming because the clorine was painful. I went through a whole can of Solercain (sp?)- ask your pharmacist. It helped manage the pain a lot.

Most important thing is to make sure the remedies you use contain NO alcohol. That will make it worse in the long run. Taking a double dose of an anti-histamine like Benadyrl will allevitae the pain and itching but tends to make me sleepy as all get out.

SMARTASS OBVIOUS COMMENT ALERT - The best solution is to not get burnt in the first place - / SMARTASS OBVIOUS COMMENT ALERT :):):)

As already mentioned, Aloe Vera plants are the best option for sunburn. Make sure you grab one from Bunnings. :D

Treat any sunburn for what it is, a burn. So, the trick is to reduce the skin temperature just like a burn treatment. Ice down the area or reduce the temperature with a long, cold shower, as cold as you can take it. Also, aspirin will help with the inflammation.

I have a huge plant in my backyard and it has helped me quite often. I second yournamehere's tip!

During the day, keep it lathered with Aloe, as the aloe absorbs into the skin, put more on. At night, use Preparation H (don't laugh, it works). Preparation H won't absorb into the skin like aloe will so provieds comfort all night. It removes heat, reduces swelling and relieves the itchy/burning sensation.

My family doctor told my parents to use this on me like 25 years ago when I got a bad sunburn and I've been using it for sunburns ever since.

I have also heard that soaking the burned area in condensed milk will work as well, but have never tried it.

Solarcaine Spray Aloe Extra Burn Relief, works really good.
Put a coat of that on, then let it dry and keep putting on regular aloe.

When you burn, your body emits a base substance. Therefore, douse yourself in vinegar. Empty a full bottle of vinegar in the bathtub and bathe in that.

Think back to high school ... sun burn is a base, vinegar is an acid. What happens when you mix an acid and a base? They neutralize each other.

It hurts, won't say it doesn't. But if you prefer to get all the pain over with all at once, this is the way to go.

Oh, and of course, you'll need moisturizer applied constantly to keep the peeling down to a minimum.

That aloe vera plant sounds gold. I don't like getting too many artifical/manufactured and refined products, so that sounds like the way to go. I didn't really peel to badly either, which was good. I was just using cocoa butter for it.
next time slip, slop, slap though :(

mate, get a tube of pure aloe vera and stick it in the fridge. it is PURE bliss putting it on sunburn.

i'm a ginger minger so i get burnt quite easily, that stuff has saved my skin countless times...
