basketball training program

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any public available professional basketball weight training programs ?

Like how some of the big players in the NBA work out thru the year and off-season.

I also would like to know what extra nutritions they take (or drugs???)

As for actual training programs for the players in the NBA, i doubt it. Occasionaly, i've seen on www.nba.com do a quick coverstory/look at players during the off-season. Albeit, it isn't comprehensive nor specific enough to make any kind of routine out of. Remember that the players are paying (or the club is?) their personnal trainers to put together a good routine/work out for them. So they wouldn't want to release all this info for free

Anyway, for a while i've had this site bookmarked and the general info on there is reasonably comprehensive.

The workout, wouldn't be that disimilar from any other, however there is definitley an emphasis on strength endurance and power. So theres some more (speed as well) reps with mid-weight weights, as opposed to just high weight low reps (slow). Also, any form of high intensity training is good, for short burts of power/strength. As this is what actually happens in basketball

in just milling about a bit on google i found this site as well, which you might want to checkout.
Here's another workout scheme and some other stuff on jumping higher

So: Explosiveness, speed, and endurance. As for drugs or supplements, i am not really into much of that stuff, so i don't know? Like other than just eating stuff naturally found in food Which suffices!!! Although someone else might want to inform you on that. That said, if this is only a bit of an amatuer thing, then i don't know why you'd spend a lot on supplements etc When you start getting paid for doing it maybe?
Although, make sure you stay inside the law though

thx for the info ! i'll check the links.
As what you were saying about suplements, I would NEVER, NEVER take anything that could harm my body. I was just wondering about things like proteins, amino acids, creatine... when they take it, how much and stuff like that

But I think most of the professional players take some "black-listed" stuff anyway...

but as you said, it's probably very difficult to get there actual training charts...

just curious

if you want to do cardio, try suicides (as they are called around my area) where you go from one line touching the other. that shit will kill you. and also try doing the end of a squat position against a wall for as long as you can (also shit that will kill you). i dont know how much bball players weight train; whenever i played it was always more concern about reaction time and speed then ever overall strength (unless you were a center)

I know those drills, if done properly they sure can be hard :-)

but if you just look at any game ... all positions are getting more and more strength ... Not only a center thing

Yeah, do a Google on 'Jumping Programs'. There's a crapload available. These routines mainly work out the legs to increase your vertical leap and the speed of your lateral movements (handy for Defense and killer X-overs.) As far as I know, there's no real program specifc to Basketball that works the upper body.
Most importantly, remember to practice and play regularly. There's no point having a 1m vertical leap if you can't shoot, pass or play D.
